Gambling in Macau has been legal since the 1850s when the Portuguese government legalised the activity in the autonomous colony. Since then, Macau has become known worldwide as the "Gambling capital of the world". It is the only place in China where casino gambling is legal.

Many members say talk to other drivers. Me personally, I never do that. My experience will not mirror their experience. I believe that all companies at their core, are the same. I also think that if I keep my head down and run the miles, there won't be any such thing as a bad company. Trucking is about what you put in it. When I "research a company," all I look for is good equipment, pay that's competitive(doesn't have to be the highest cpm), and most importantly, can the company deliver the miles. If a company can't keep their drivers busy, what good are they? I like to run big miles. I like a company that can run all 48, or as close to all 48 as possible. Limitless miles and opportunities. You'll have the greatest success in the industry if you don't limit yourself...this means a willingness to travel anywhere, and do what's asked of you. You do those things, a company will take great care of you. Don't matter which company.

Thanks, that's a very reasoned and practical approach. How to you go about determining if a potential company has those miles you are after? I too like long mileage if I'm OTR, but so far the mileage I've received has been less than I was promised. It is possible that my target may be to high. But if someone says " Oh yeah, we can definitely get you 3000 miles a week and I'm lucky to break 2000, I feel like I was bullshitted. In my mind that the same as telling me I'm being hired on at $30 an hour but the pay turns out to be $20 an hour.

    Hey, Turkey....

Just in case you haven't already noticed -- there are active threads here on the Forum that are "long runners".

These big, active threads indicate that these carriers are generally good to their drivers; also -- driver morale & camaraderie there is also generally high.

    Examples:

    • Indian River Transport (food-grade OTR tanker)
    • Climate Express (OTR reefer)
    • Freemont Contact Carriers (easily one of the best OTR fleets to join)

It's all about a company's honesty. The reality is, 3000 miles won't happen every week. If a company tells me that their drivers average 2500 miles a week, that's acceptable. 2300 to 2500 is about the norm for a mega. Smaller companies I've noticed tend to be around 2700 to 2800 mark. If a company gives me that average, That's an indicator that the average length of haul is around the 700 to 900 mile mark. Also, that tells me they have runs in that mile range in which you could probably get off the next day if you run your clock right. I prefer companies that are in that range of average length of haul. I think that's where you make your best money. There is one company in Arkansas, Justin Time Trucking, they look the part, but they advertise an average length of haul of 1500 miles. That can be tricky. If you have a bad dispatcher, that could be worse than the 700 to 900 length of haul. Those are the questions I'd ask....average length of haul, and what do company drivers average weekly.

That's why you talk to the drivers that work at the company, not just ask the recruiter or read the company web page.

Truck drivers are embellishers. Talking to other drivers is so overrated. One driver's experience is always going to be different than the next. I think most drivers are full of #### and not all that objective. Other drivers can be the greatest salesmen in the world. If you pay attention, and look at a company's website or ad, and have an idea what you're looking for, you can weed out companies without talking to anybody. I've got a short list in my back pocket of places to go should things falter where I'm at. I don't have any plans to change, but I think it's good to keep a little short list of potential places that meet my needs. It's a pretty volatile industry.

I meant to show you this example from Moeller Trucking's website yesterday. When you look at this particular page, you'll see the various terminals. It also has a list of their regular routes. Looking at this page, to me I see the transparency as to how they operate. You can see they have a series of dedicated routes, big miles, and a decent variety. You see their regular freight lanes, and you also see their primary running areas. It looks the part of a carrier that can run you. I'd be intrigued by this outfit if I were looking for a company. This is the one that I'd call just by going through the website.
