This is the 1st company that I've seen that will give more CPM if you waive medical coverage. That works for me as I am fully covered under the VA. I can see your point about the transparency and their lanes.

Oh yeah, they'd be worth a look when the time comes. How much experience do you have?

26 years of military heavy truck/equipment operations, 3 of civilian. Civilian is a mix of reefer/van, livestock hauling and a 3 week stint filling in hauling cars for a sick O/O. I'm waiting on a training date with local aggregate outfit hauling transfers willing to work with me to do double/triples.

Awww man you're gravy. You've got tons of experience. Being military with all that experience you're definitely writing your own ticket. I'll bet that money with aggregate is dang good too!

Initially I thought so too. I had to talk to a lot of recruiters to take me on OTR. I luckily I found a company that was willing to give a check ride. I spent 4 weeks with a senior driver. 1st two weeks I did all the driving and he observed/evaluated/coached. Then we did 2 weeks as a team. I'm glad for it too. Learned a lot.

Been trying to break in to dump trucking locally and finally got my foot in the door. Everything here is Super 16s, dual side dumps and frameless. Even with my background they only want experienced drivers. The hopefully pulling 3 dump bodies will make me more attractive. The pay is 23 per hr minimum, but I'm paid per load. So if something goes sideways and I only get one load I get 23 an hour for the day. Each load is worth $230 once I get my double/triple endorsement.

Not gonna lie, I do like the Solitude of OTR.

If you're running with a lot of other dumps in a short rotation, try to find out real quick how they feel about trucks staying in line and not passing each other. Sometimes the first day's pace might be a little slow...they're just trying to set a rate (no matter what the published or offered rate is) and being a little less productive might result in a higher wage per load or per ton.
Just watch and see what everyone else does.
