    Hi there,
I am new here. MY hubby has his cdl and in less than 2 years we will be empty nesters. I will have to move to a different part of the state as that is where my hubby is working now. That is fine. Background of us ; married 0ver 25 years, ran a business together for most of that, and we will be in our early 50's in two years. We have two children ; both will be in college in 2018.
I was thinking of getting my cdl and we could do team driving? Pros? Cons? Is the salary dependable? We would prefer to work for a company as against an owner operator.

    Thanks for any opinions.

Good idea. Will you work for the same company he's with now?
Which state do you live in?

Best of luck to you. Heather and I have a similar background to yours and we have been driving together for 3+ years now. We really enjoy it. You have a ton of options and you can live anywhere you want. Your options may be a bit limited for the first year or so but it is still good. You can expect to earn at least $100,000 if you are not looking for a ton of home time. You might find it fun to read some of the husband and wife blogs out there starting with Anne and Craig Leonard. We chose to go a route that allowed me to train my wife every step of the way, so she never had to spend a minute on a truck with anyone else. We have been both independent contractors and company. Happy to answer any specific questions for you.

We live in Pa at the moment. No, he will not work for the same company as they do not do team drivers.

Thank you. I think we would prefer to work for a company for a few reasons. After being self employed for a long time, we are ready to let the bigger issues be someone else.We also would like more of a dependable income as against looking for loads. With the kids at college, the time is our own really except for the holidays. Any pitfalls to avoid?

You say "PA at the moment", are you moving? Come on out to Las Vegas!
Old Dominion will probably hire you both to run teams on line haul. They've been hiring a lot of new cdl grads in PA and even recruiting at cdl schools.
Husband/Wife teams can make $150,000K to $225,000K per year there. Old Dominion is one of the best team outfits around if you go line haul with the company. You both will need hazmat endorsement and doubles endorsement. Don't let hazmat endorsement be a worry; if the trailer has a few cases of paint or car batteries it means you need hazmat endorsement.

Thank you so much for your speedy reply. He has hazmat, tanker, doubles and triples. I have nothing yet, but don't know if I should get the cdl myself or do it thru a company. He got it himself. I am not afraid of hazmat ; our old business was pest control and I know the pesticide trucks I drove were much smaller (cabover, 600 gal tanks). We will probably keep our house in PA so that at least we would have a base. I will certainly have him look at OD.

Try to get your cdl through private school or community college. Contact Old Dominion and ask which school they prefer.

If you decide to contact Old Dominion, tell them you and husband would like to run teams on line haul. Husband/wife teams are in big demand.
