Ok..here I go. New to this site, but for those of you that are newbies I just thought I would share my experience with Werner. First of all they have lied about everything. Recruiter said it's not unusual for first year driver to make over 40K, driving 130K,...I did the math in my head that's over 10K a month, that's possible. Well, I've been with them for 6 months, 3 of those months were in traiining ( 18 days total waiting for a trainer, went through two and 7weeks with my trainer, if you call them that). Werner promotes drivers as 'trainers' after 3 months..yep...3 months. I didn't see home for over 3 months. Now, I have been a solo driver for 3 months. Right now my gross so far in 6 months is a little over 11K, a far cry from my "40k" I'm suppose to make in my first year. 11 western states is on a sliding pay scale. My first check was for 2,700 miles, but average was .22 mile. I about crapped. They failed to tell me 11 western is not the same pay as 48, which is .26. I was able to merge over to 48, with miles from 700 week, to 3,000. No detention pay (live loads and unloads, no pay for sitting), no extra monies. You FM can 'pad' your check for you if he likes you...have to brown nose and tell them how wonderful they are....I don't know if there is a good company for us "newbies", I'm thinking about US Xpress. To think I could be making 150 more a week. They have an impressive pay scale. Anyone's input on them please respond. Respond if you questions about Werner. It's a good starter company, but I'm not staying. I'm done, fried, burnt out, pissed,...all that good stuff. :biggrin_25523: oh, almost every trailer I pick up had something wrong with it...they aren't really quick about getting stuff fixed when you need trailer repaired, could take hours, so many drivers don't bother and let the next driver deal with it...nice...

You gotta be kidding me?!? You guys realize I started out at .26 cpm with my first company more than 17 years ago.

What the hell is going on? I'll tell you! Newbies are hard up enough to accept this just to get their foot in the door.
I wonder, if you go to a trucking school (like I did) is it STILL possible to find a small company (like I did) to take you under their wing as a first job?

I never relied on a "starter company" to get my experience with. So can it STILL be done that way....or are people just in such a hurry, and feel that a "training company" is their only hope.

I'm asking, because I honestly don't know. Did I get lucky and find someone right out of the gate.....or can ANYONE do it.

p.s.- The owner of a 26 truck operation himself gave me a road test....saw I could drive....took a chance on me, and cut me loose after a one day orientation. HOWEVER, that was over 17 years ago.....things may have changed, I don't know.

BAD advice!!! Western Express ###### me, and I didn't ever once drive for them......what can they do to someone that actually works for them?!?

Wow I started at Crete 3-4 months ago at $0.34 CPM. You need to do some research before you choose your next job. My recommendation would be Crete, Schinder, TMC, or one of the better companies than Swift, or Werner. There is plenty of info to help you select a WAY better company than Werner. Good luck if you need help or anything let me know, I will be glad to help.

Some of us need to get out there on the road to earn and realy can't wait around. Because we need to earn now to feed our families and not sit around and keep searching, and end up homeless. I dont what they did to you, but I did alot of research and they seem to be a good fit for me at this time.Especialy since the terminal I am coming out of is only about 15 miles down the road.

Thanks guys. A lot of companies can not hire newbies due to insurance purposes, so we're stuck with these large,.crappy companies until you get at least a year. I may be heading to N Dakota work n oil fields, hauling water for $30 hour. Will know more once I get home next weekend, that's if Werner gets me home...I read US Xpress is laying of drivers cuz they refuse to drive as a team or lease..any other comments?

You wont get hired at US Xpress unless you opt for team driver or lease purchase

Yup don't lease I was talking with someone who leased a truck from Transam and after truck payment and other fees he was bringing home around $200 a week out of a $1000+ week.
