I-70 i belive that. That road breaks trucks. Literally. That road is so bad its a joke. I personally have broken rims and leaf hangers on the potholes in it. And its only getting worse and worse.

Yup. I70 west from the Ohio line to Greenfield Indiana has gotta be one of the worst interstates in the country currently.

Horrible title and article. That was a piggyback operation. It’s easy to see losing control of one of those setups, on the crappiest road in the country. Every aspect of Indiana roadways and law enforcement sucks!

Doubtful. Been like this for years.

They just tore down the perfectly serviceable, westbound welcome center, instead of fixing I-70. Right now, they have the I-70 welcome centers closed and torn down at both ends of the state and eastbound I-64, coming in from Illinois. That’s several hundred parking spaces gone, for the next however many years, as Indiana does nothing very quickly. The westbound I-70 welcome center is going on 2yrs and nowhere close to being done. I just started running I-64, so not sure how long that project has been going on, but, it’s nowhere close, either. I-70, through Terre Haute, has been a continuous construction project, at least 20yrs.

To be fair the welcome centers do need to be rebuilt, along with I-70 as a whole to accommodate the increased truck traffic.
Seems like every time I run 70 between Indy and the Ohio state line trucks are lined up on the shoulder on the on/off ramps to the point where they’re parking on the shoulder of the interstate itself.
Both issues the State of Indiana has been dragging its feet on.

The welcome center is being expanded, as part of the renovation. They’ve already cleared a bunch more acreage. And, the timber crew are in the back and not even in the rest area parking lot. However, the building was perfectly fine, as it was. No need to tear it down, which meant they could barricade off the whole property. Today, there wasn’t a single piece of equipment on the property, related to construction/rebuilding. That crew should’ve had all their equipment and materials in place and ready to go.

Part of that parking problem can be blamed on Ohio. They tore out the westbound rest area, which was straight across from their welcome center. That should’ve been expanded and a new facility built. That was a beautiful rest area, back in the 90’s.

Hell... they fairly recently finished a massive project on I-70 from the Ohio line all the way to Indy... and when they opened it back up, the only difference I could see was some of the bridge approaches weren't as violent as they were before. Some of the "repairs" are worse than they were before. Reminds me of a bunch of spots on I-24 in KY, just North of Ft Campbell. I routinely get off at Kuttawa, and back on a the Loves just to avoid that stretch.
