Power divider input shaft broke? Driveshaft turns, truck does NOT move

In layman's terms, power is going to take the path of least resistance. Hence spinning wheel or broken spider gears in your power divider. . I would replace the whole power divider with a reman.

 

Thanks. Some mechanic that I know suggested also to replace the middle axle differential at the same time. Would you agree?

 

All depends on how many miles are on it and how it's been used. If ring pinion look good and carrier bearings are tight you probably be fine just replacing power divider assembly. How's the oil look? Full of metal ?. If all else looks good run it.

 

470k miles. Quite a bit of metal on the bottom magnet. We are taking off the diff assembly right now to look at it.

 

That metal is prob all from the pooched powerdivider. With those miles I wouldn't be afraid to throw a reman power divider in and run it.
It likely let go from extream shock load . Only way you explode the spiders gears like that.

 

We took out the differential. It is in HORRIBLE shape. Piles of metal stuck to magnets on the bottom. Also broken differential teeth.

 

We have a mechanical gooseneck trailer. I am thinking that "shock loads" may have something to do with it?

 

Well that settles that then LOL. I think I'd be looking more of the driver than what trailer you're pulling

 

OK, we found a replacement at a local drive train company and it carries a 2 year warranty.
