I have a 1500 watt road pro inverter I bought off ebay. I hook only a 700 watt microwave to it. it will run for about 2 sec and inverter shuts off. it says LV or something like that on the display. I have an 07 freightliner with extended frame. battery box is close to front tandems. I got power cables from parts store. think they may be aluminum meant for car amps. how do I fix this problem. cold sandwiches are getting old quick. thanks

The LV most likely means low voltage. I'd have to see your setup to be sure but my best guess is you likely have a bad connection at the battery. Also, as you mentioned the cables do you know what gauge they are? The wrong cables will not supply the juice necessary to run a larger inverter. Lastly, if you have an inline fuse set up (and I hope you do for your sake) check it out... Sometimes the fuse won't completely blow and will still allow a small amount of current to get through i.e. enough to get the inverter to power up but fail immediately under load like you described.

What gauge is the wire, and how long is the run?

I do have a fuse but I haven't put it inline yet. I just tried the install today and was checking to make sure it all worked properly and this is the outcome

Some invertors need two sets of cables going too them.
I bought some good #4 jumper cables and cut off the clamps and installed battery lug ends on the ends of the cables.
Or if you got big bucks, #4 welders cable will work also.

    freddyb Thanks this.
