I am getting a lot of conflicting info on Inverters in Swift trucks. What is the REAL answer Yes or NO? If yes what is the most wattage you can get? If no, Why not? Because I do not like eating truck stop food or fast food(to EXPENSIVE and usually not real healthy) and I wanted to have my Micro-wave and crock pot out there instead of running into the Pilot or Loves every time I wanted to heat my breakfast or dinner and those times you have to camp out at the shippers or the receivers and you have no access to one. :biggrin_2556:

the L/O's can have inverters installed...by Swift mechanics if I remember right...but company trucks are not allowed even the lighter plug in variety. However many drivers do have the lighter plug in (up to 450 Watts) and tuck them away when the truck goes in the shop.

The reason is the new trucks have so much electrical draw from all the "extras" and the Q-comm use...batteries get sucked down really fast...so they say!

The smaller plug in type won't be enough to power a microwave...as far as a crock pot...check the wattage requirements for the pot you want and see if the smaller inverter will work.

The only exception to this on a company truck would be for a sleep apnea machine with inverter installed by Swift.

Thanks Ya"ll. That helps I have a cpap but I can not find or remember the Doctors name that prescribed it too me. I am still using it but have never had it read or down loaded since I got it. Another question If you dont mind. On our Pete that we had I guess it was Opti-Idle. It would shut the truck off after it ran five minutes. How are you supposed to keep cool in the summer if you can not keep the truck idling. And Swift has no APUs and as many of you know Idle air is expensive and some places do not have it anymore?:biggrin_2552:

I run mainly in Texas and the south. I can't sleep and get rest lying in a pool of sweat. I idle the truck. My DM threatened to write me up last May when it started getting hot for excessive idle. I told her to not waste any time, get the writeups ready for June, July, August and September right now because I was going to continue to idle while sleeping in the summer. She never did write me up at all!

Opti Idle will start the truck and keep it running until the set cab (sleeper) temp is reached. The set up is something like cruise control on, brake set, engage sleeper temp control. That's not the actual procedure, just there to demonstrate there is a list of controls to be engaged.

Most trucks have a 5 minute idle shut off, but I don't know how to turn that off. Swift will provide a fan and screens to provide for "driver comfort" and easy access of the robber in the middle of the night.

Well you would think that as big as Swift is they could do something for drivers to keep them comfortable. With all new regs on safety and constantly complaining about fatigued drivers. I have been reading up on the CSA2010 stuff. It seem that nobody can get on the same page.??:biggrin_2552:

Thanks Plazon! Yes that is one of my concerns as being female I am not to crazy about the idea of sleeping with screens and my windows down. What good is it to lock your doors? And all a fan does is blow around hot air!:biggrin_25512:
