For father's day, wife got me a new antenna with coax she mount to replace the standard one in this freightliner evolution. Anyway got the wires ran antenna mounted but on testing I get the power output fail message. Battery and antenna both pass just this one failing. I put a Wilson fgt4 on it with 18' coax. Had to get the door mount of course, just not figuring where I flubbed up.

Output fail coming up in the freightliner message center or with a tester of some sort? With a 2012 Cascadia I managed to blow the fuse one time while changing radios didn't think I had grounded it out but I must have done something. Another driver did the same hooking up his connex in his Cascadia. We both replaced the cb fuse which was located in the fuse box behind the glove box in the back to the far right. Had no more problems the rest of the time we had that truck. Just switched to a 2017 ran power directly from battery box. These Cascadias are a bear to run wires, power and coax into the overhead neatly. While dragging the wires thru the dash behind the speedometer panel I managed to dislodge the pink wire that goes to the Tripac to tell it to shut off when key is in run position. They had just threw it in there with out securing it anywhere so be careful when running your coax or power wires.

rabbiporkchop Thanks this. -
Nope this message was on the test screen for the cb itself. Radio is cobra 29 lx hd. Oddly enough, when I opened the door, I got "antenna fail" went away and said pass when I shut the door

I thought it might be the ground, but using the bracket for the cascadia bolted on to the door wouldn't that be ground?
-
Depending on your truck the bolt on mount may not provide sufficient ground. You may want to review the Cascadia Antenna Solutions thread for grounding solutions. I haven't used that exact radio so not familiar with it's menu and capabilities for diagnostics. Most antenna tuning instructions recommend tuning antenna with all vehicle doors closed so it does make a difference.

Got parked and decided to give it another go. Checked all the connections and snugged them down. Now I am getting the power output and antenna warning on the radio test screens. Hooked back up the original. Seems to work but only when I am in close proximity to another driver does it seem like they can hear me.

Perhaps you got a bad antenna or coax I've seen new stuff be bad before, I'd recomend testing swr with an extrenal meter
-
When the door is closed its a better ground..Tripple chk your power supply wire with a ohm meter..
-
What?
No ... when the door is closed, the rf pattern changes and so would the swr/reaction of the antenna.
If you have changes in the continuity of the ground, then you have an improper ground to begin with.
