The auditor "should" have been explaining the proper way to do it! Do they just tell you that you have a violation, go figure it out? I mean gosh, how are you to learn from your mistakes if no one tells ya
Ok you are very welcome and I am once again just happy to know I helped someone's job be a little less stressfull!

I recently began driving for a large flatbed company... In an effort to stay on top of dispatched loads I have had great difficulty keeping a legal log... I know there will be those that say they keep a legal log but I from my experience say that it is not possible. Reading your post may shead some light on the subject that my help in my plight.
Thanks -
I can't force anyone to run legal as I am not on the truck with you, but I can preach it. I will help anyway I can! -
The info was really helpful for this new recruit, thanks!

You are very welcome, glad to help -
Thanks for the information... That provided is exactly the way I understood it to be. Your remarks relative to prision were not necessary. This is just another case of extremeism as is prevelent in this industry.
Further, the company I worked for was only intrested in making deliveries and not doing what was right. This is also true of the DOT... It is all a game and more over controled by money. Audits done by DOT are superficial and favor the Trucking Industy excluding the Driver.
The company I worked for relative to logging preached about being legal all the while knowing they only wanted the appearence of legal logs. The most common rant was to ensure all fuel times matched within 15 minutes of the actual log as that was what DOT looked at during the audits it was of no consequence that while the times were correct it is ignored that the fueling city is no where close.
I know that I will be recognized as another disgruntle driver. I began this endavor after I retired and did so at 50. Retriement is a function of money and not age. That said I always in the back of my mind thought about driving a truck. Having done so I now know it is a difficult life and it is as bad as the sweat shops around the world. I admire those who have dedicated themselves to do what they do whether by choice or by need.
But I will tell you what is going on in this industry is not right and if forced into a corner I will spend what ever amount of money required to expose the wrong doing.
The general public as no idea and most drivers are stuck between the general public and the Trucking Industry. Say what you will, mom had ugly children but they are not stupid... -
thanks for the info

OK Logs , How do you feel that the ruling of the court is going to go regarding Hours of Service ??
And which HOS do you prefer ?? -
Well it looks like the "courts" want to throw out the 11 & 34 hour. They are looking at going to a 10 hour rule (keeping the 14 hr is how I take it) and totally getting rid of the 34 hour restart.
Now ATA is definetly trying to keep the current rules in place as it has been proven the accident ratings have been lower and profit has been higher.
No one has yet heard from FMCSA (DOT) on this issue. IT is all because DOT did not give the court the documentation needed to provide the "new" HOS was proven to be safe. If DOT had given these document this may not even be a discussion.
I personally would like to keep it the same as all they are doing is making it a 10 hour rule instead of 11. Now if DOT could come up with a better HOS then I am game, although back to square 1 of meeting my life time goal.
Everyone will find out on 9-12-07 or prior. FMCSA has 52 days to submit their case (can't remember the legal term). Not sure what DOT is planning on doing and if even the court will go with what they say. Therefore everyone may wake up on 9-12 and find out the HOS has changed and is effective on 9-12. My hope is they will not do that to me or you! That will be a total uproar for everyone!!!!!!!!!
It's just a mess and makes me want to SCREAM -
what is split breaking?
