Hey guys and girls. Just got a pre-hire letter from U.S. Xpress. They're not one of my first choices to drive for, but it's the first good news that I've heard about finding a job since I lost my job in early December. Can anyone tell me anything about them that I won't find on their website, like mileage, home time, whether they're a good or bad company. Thanks.

2nd ?.. what do u wanna haul and what endorsments do you have.
beleive it or not, in this ecomnomy the trucking ind is exp a glut of drivers, so u may want to consider the X.
have u been to a truck stop to talk to drivers ?
also ask some hard ??? over the phone to the recruiter. then ask the same ?? to a X driver that u see at a truck stop.
just some suggestions for you. good luck -
If you get disqualified from working for them you will have to pay for your own way back home. It says it on theor website but it may nor be well pronounced on there. -
Runninman- US Xpress wasn't one of my first choices. I faxed about seven applications in to a trucking school that I'm looking into all at once Sunday night, they sent the apps to the various companies Monday, and I heard back from Xpress the next day. It's only been a couple of days, so I'm not discouraged about my first choices yet. From what I've read about the companies on their websites and what I've read on here, my first choice is Gordon Trucking, followed by Transport America, and Roehl. I don't have my CDL yet. I am working on getting pre-hires through Roadmaster Driving School out of Indianapolis before I start school. However, I am now considering a different school altogether because of some posts that I've read on this website about different driving schools.
Mgassel- Are there any companies that will pay your way back home if they disqualify you? I wouldn't think too many would do that. After all, you're not an employee so why would they need to do anything to help you out? One post I read about Xpress said that they had been telling solo drivers that they either needed to team or lease. If they refused they were sent home. So basically, you do what you have to do to keep a job right? Thanks for the info. I'll still wait and see what I get from the other companies that I applied to. -
Any offer right now is a good one.
Don't get too content though. It's all auto's and 100% no-touch. So your pointing and shooting will be sort of like trucking as a career, but not really.
Be fielding job offers all the way as you go, it may be harder to move on w/o the shifting experience. There's no proof of this, but some are saying it. -
That's one thing I thought about. I did drive 6 years ago and am pretty confident that I could get in a truck right now and drive down the road just fine, but I could see y some companies would think about that. I have applications in at several other companies and got a call today from a recruiter at Gordon saying he had a question about my application. Hopefully they will hire me. All the research that I've done points to them being about the best out there right now, especially for student drivers.

The only thing about USX is that thy run all automatics. This hurts if you ever want to move to another company, since most others drive manuals still. A lot of companies will pay y our way home if you don't qualify. It is a question to ask a recruiter... in an EMAIL so you have the response in writing. A LOT of recruiters will not respond via email for this very reason, BTW. They want you always to call, so they can say whatever will get you in the door and they can deny everything.

Having worked for USX before I can tell you I had good miles... and great hometime... I did however learn to work the system with hometime.. if I wanted to be home on Friday for the day I would put in for hometime the night before... A lot depended on the fleet manager... Get a good one and they will work with you.. I lost my great FM a month before I left... and ended up with someone who really didn't know how to run a board.. but all in all it was a decent enough co. to work for... As for the teaming... I asked a friend about that and while it is mostly true they are still hiring solo drivers... YEs they are automatics but you can also manually shift... I am in the process of going back there so I will keep you posted... I started with them out of school too btw.....
Dukefan8408 Thanks this. -
Thanks Abastuba. That helps a lot. Keep me posted. Let me know if there is anything else I should know about the company. Thanks again
