Got the word on both companys that I am pre-hired. swift says they pay 450 a week to train. Werner says 325 a week. Figure I'll go swift. Can anyone tell me if after the 42 days is up will I get my own truck? Don't want to team drive, just want to run by myself.

Just left Swift after 2 years and couldn't be happier! Except for the first day, I hated every day I was there, but I stuck with it because I knew that I could get to a better place if I got the experience. It has paid off! Starting with Interstate in a few days. Of course, these days ANY job is a good one to have.

Hi. I can only share the experience of a fairly new Swift driver who attended the state driving school that I am attending. She trained for some time and eventually did wind up in her own truck after the training period. She's decently content at Swift for now and is basically gaining necessary OTR experience. (NOTE: This is based on personal conversation, not on the driver visiting the school to try to recruit.)
Between the two companies, I've heard plenty of negativity. However, I've heard 100% against Werner versus about 80% against Werner. I'm sure you can look up Werner in the bad companies thread and see how experienced drivers see it.
Hope I helped - even a little. -
Well I didn't work for them but my brother in law did. After hearing him rant and rave about them I can honestly say I would if I had to go OTR and was looking.
He was home every weekend and I mean every weekend and he had a nice truck from the get go which to me means nothing as long as it runs good.
He made pretty decent money but was stupid and put in for another route and lost money.
After about 6 months he got a new 08 international with 3000 miles on it. He pissed and moaned about it too. Said he could stand it. Not enough power. But you have to know my Brother in law he ####### and moans about everything. A good example is he didn't like how the headlights looked on the volvo so it's a instant peice of crap.
They told him if he wanted to run the miles he could have them. He turned them down then whined about his checks being crappy.
He got canned back in Nov right at thanksgiving. He decided he wanted to take off 2 days before thanksgiving and bobtailed home unauthorized and threw a fit on his DM when they called looking for him. Needless to say he got the axe. But he still lives with mommy and daddy and he told them he got laid off. Yeah I bet he did.
Anyways I haven't drove for them all I know is what he has told me and what I figured out between the lines in my conversations with him. I know if he can do it then any one can. He had it good there for a newbie. -
Swift isnt all that bad in my opinion I think they are better than werner. I drove for them oh for about 6 months, then they pulled som bs on me and pulled me outta my truck because my truck wasnt running the miles the rest of the trucks were running. So I quit but for the most part they are ok, but they are one of the big major companies and will treat you like a number, and if you have to go with one of these companies dont stay with them for more than a year cause you can make more money elsewhere, and also be treated like a person elsewhere.
