Can anybody tell me about pre-hires at Prime? I sent in my app, talked to my recruiter. She told me she pulled my MVR and had faxed paperwork to my previous employers. We talked again and she told me one employer had responded and we were just waiting on the other employer. She said after that everything gets sent over to safety and if they were OK with everything then she would arrange to get me to Springfield.

I've heard stories about people getting "pre-hired", going to orientation and getting booted. I understand I'd still have to pass my DOT physically once I get there but I don't expect any problems with that. So is it a pretty sure thing I'll have a job or are these companies in the habit of scheduling a bunchof people for orientations and then sending them home?

Nothing is sure until you have gone through training and got your CDL; Prime is gambling you'll do that, but if you wash out of their training program, they surely aren't going to hire you.

Once your pre-hire goes through and you show up, what will mess up is any medical issue, ie BP and sleep anemia. I have seen that the most. Also Meds that you are not allowed to take. In addition ANY drug use not disclosed, I am not talking illegal drugs. If you don't try to hide anything and are VERY honest and upfront then you reall won't have a problem. This includes ANY run ins with the law. Basically Don't try to hide anything, be open and honest. Illegal drugs, will get picked up on the drug test. In my class we had around 47 to begin with, finished Friday with around 30, most were booted because of lying on the Pre-App.

Listen to everyone here, BE HONEST and be committed to completing this. Alot of folks will get there, screw up and then say it was Prime's fault to keep themselves from looking like an idiot. Non hackers who got weeded out like they were supposed to. You will be fine:biggrin_25515:

Right, certainly you won't have a job if you can't pass the CDL training. I'm referring to orientation. Don't want to ride the bus all the way down and get sent packing. Does your hubby have a date scheduled yet to go down?

Thanks guys! I don't have any sort of criminal record, never used drugs, and don't have any reason to lie on my pre-app, so it sounds lime I should be good. I'm certainly motivated, although my mechanical aptitude isn't great. Guess I'll probably need to work on that some...

Not yet. They are still doing whatever they do to verify the basic application stuff. I assume after that, some sort of "prehire" letter will come inviting him to attend training or what not. I'm gonna guess we'll hear something next week either way.

From everything I've read for any training company, there are lots of opportunities to get sent home without even seeing a paycheck or even the end of the first day.

But a lot of them seem preventable (don't do drugs! Don't have a record, traffic or otherwise!)/common sense stuff (don't lie!).

I'd say to take the advice of many other pre-hires here and do all that you can to prescreen yourself before you get on the bus so that you can make sure you *won't* get sent home first day. Read up on a few of the "going to Prime!" type topics 'cause lots of them go into what sends people home right away.

If you know you haven't lied about anything on the app and that your information is complete, if you don't drink or do drugs, if you don't have a criminal or traffic record that you haven't already spoken to the recruiter about -- then be proactive. Make sure your vision and BP is within the right range (you can sort of screen yourself for free), try to lose a few pounds if you're a big guy, and ask your significant other if you snore a lot/loudly and then seem to stop breathing for a few seconds, then sigh and start the snoring again. If you do that, you probably will fail their sleep test if they decide you are risk and want you to take it -- but hey, they let you take it *there*. Other places make you go home and do it.

That's really a net win for you if you have sleep apnea. You get it diagnosed and treated at a discount.

When you're going through CDL driving school, they have you get "prehires" to ensure that you are not wasting your time and money. A "prehire" letter guarantees you nothing - it does indicate that the trucking company that sent it will consider your application after you graduate from school, and they'll offer you the chance to attend orientation. Understand that you can still be denied employment during the orientation process at a trucking company, even if they have sent you a "prehire."

I know that doesn't sound positive, but there are many reasons a carrier may deny you employment. It's to your benefit to get as many "prehires" as possible while you're in school - just so you have options once you graduate. Good luck!

i would also recomend highly that you do not fall asleep during any class, video,or speech.that will,in most cases,be a quick trip to the bus station.

    I

That's pretty much what I figured; it sounds like I should be OK as long as the physical is good. No worries about the drug screen. It just seems like there are a lot of stories about people getting sent home. My main concern was that the trucking companies weren't just over-recruiting and then realizing they better boot people because they didn't truly have enough openings.

So background, employment verification, MVR check should all be done prior to reporting for orientation, so the only things that could go bad at orientation (outside of me doing something stupid) would basically be the physical or drug tes
    t, is that about right?

As far as pre-hires, the only place I've applied is Prime, because I want to go through the PSF program. From everything I've seen it looks really good and I don't have any real interest in working somewhere else. I mean, I would if it came down to it I suppose, but Prime looks to me like it would be a good fit. (Except that I really don't want to run NYC, or really anything northeast for that matter...but oh well.) Since I'm not currently in school, should I still be trying to score some pre-hires from other carriers too in case Prime wouldn't pan out?
