As the title suggests...what is a pre - pass? It suggests the obvious but you would still have to stop at chicken coops right? If someone could explain this be appreciated. Thanx.

Pre-pass is a device that if you get a green light on your transponder you can bypass the scales. If you get a red light you have to pull in.
-
does it matter if you're driving reefer, dry van, flatbed...etc? or what you're hauling?
-
As far as I know it doesn't matter what you are hauling. I just got my truck yesterday and it has a prepass transponder in it, the safety guy at our company explained to me that when you come up to a scale in the U.S. a light should come on on the unit, A green light means you can just keep driving. A yellow or red light means you must stop in as you normally would. Also he told me that if you come to a scale and no lights come on then you must stop as well, as the transponder may not be working.
Also the light is supposed to stay on for about 15 minutes I think so if you get a green light and go by but they stiill pull you over for blowing the scale for some reason you will have proof that you got a green light.
I will know more next week as I will be leaving for a trip to the US then.
Hope that helped. -

Yeah, that's why even though I was PO'd that I had to pay, I kept it in the truck. Esp the EZ pass, I used to run a TON of Chicagoland, and those I pass lanes tend to move quickly. And the 68 mph truck didn't hurt either...
