    I've always heard them referred to as cross members as well, even in manufacturing trailers. I always hated having the job of welding them from the top inside the trailer. Bent over all day and if your entire neck front and back wasn't covered with sun screen the reflection off the walls of the trailer would burn the crap out of you.
