Mileage pay is for chumps. Either pay me a percentage or by the hour.
As for WHY "short haul" pays more per mile than "long haul", it is due to the TIME factored into running the load...loading & unloading. When they bid the job, they factor that in. Paid percentage or hourly, you get paid for that time. Per mile? Bend over and grab your ankles, because they're making a killing off your decision to accept that per-mile pay. They're charging their customer for the TIME their truck and/or trailer is tied up on the load. The only ways to get a piece of that is to get paid other than by the distance the load gets moved.
Prefer longer runs or shorter runs...
