Thanks for all the kind words, fellas (and ladies).
I just finished up my first week of school (Premier CDL in Granite city IL) and feel alot better about my big decision to jump in head first with both feet, lol. Not that I believe every day will be a bowl of cherries or anything, but I like it and it seems like a good move.
We spent most of the first week in the classroom, of course. alot to learn, but I'm catchin' on to it.
I got behind the wheel of a tractor trailer for the first time friday- just puttering around the lot to get the feel of shifting, air brakes, etc.
So far, so good!

I just finished Premier CDL School in Granite City, IL last Friday, April 29th. The training was thorough and the instructors were good at their job. The examiner was by-the- book on test day. He failed one yard maneuver because the corner of the trailer broke the plane of the cone, even though nothing crossed the line...man she was upset because she had to do the entire yard movements all over again.
I went first on everything, I guess because I wasn't nervous. I got a "0" on front line stop, a "4" on the right turn and a "0" on the 45 dock. I aced the pre trip questions and the road course went very smooth.
Got a bunch of calls to make tomorrow (monday) to figure out which direction I want to go next. I've been talking to some of the recruiters that came to talk to the class at Premier and I have acceptance letters from Maverick, TMC, Star, Werner and Snieder. We also FedEx, Covenant & Trans Am tell us about what they had to offer.
Overall, Premier was a good training program. They don't teach you how to drive but they will get you ready to get your CDL. -
Family Dollar accountricmillr Thanks this. -
I just finished at Premier in Granite City IL yesterday, the instructors were great but you got to watch out for Bob he is kind of a dick, but Mike and Ron are awsome and they teach you what you need to get your CDL and thats it basically but they get the job done all 8 of use passed all 3 test and Eric the examiner was pretty cool.
If you do what your taught you will be fine and get your license and the rest will come from the company you go with.
They do bring in recruiters to help you decide were you want to go we had
TMC=hometime almost ever weekend pay%
Werner=has APUs but don't wanna pay you
Conveant=TEAMS pretty much
KLLM=paper logs
Trans Am=autos -
Ol Bob is ok, he like to take alot of breaks though, I really like driving with Ron he keeps you on your toes
