Wyoming troopers have had the ability to pull up prepass data on their in-car computers for 6 yrs (learned the hard way). NM, Co., Wyo. are using it in the even of a company audit to match records or fishy logs if you get pulled in.

The last time FMCSA came in for a compliance audit at my carrier they only wanted electronic data. No interest in paper records at all. It's here, and shows the situation going forward. So what? The respondent I was getting into it with was proposing that this is the end of the world, a view that I disagree wjth. Nothing has changed except the source of their information, and the ease of passing off a falsified logbook. If you're logging legally, you shouldn't have anything to worry about.

If you do not want to get tagged pull it down and tuck it under your leg, do NOT put it in the glove compartment you *can* still get tagged..

I did this for years with Landstar it worked every time, except the time I threw it in the glove compartment of course..

I spent a few hours out back in the penalty box at that scale and donated some money back in the mid 90's....

the cost of doing business I guess.

Yep, I asked around and this is what I figured too. On a regular D.O.T. audit, roadside inspection or regular bear snooping, these records are not accessed by the inspecting officer.

But sure as hell, if you drive that rig right through a 50 seater schoolbus, be sure that ALL digital stamps will be subpoena'd. Yep, even that stoplight you slipped at 02:30am after you stopped and all the porn sites you visited will be known. CNN and HLN will also publish your underwear size and your grammas favorite cookie recipe.:biggrin_2553:

So when all is well, those records are sealed, but do not count on that when the pawpaw hits the fan.......

So... before electronics, back in the stone age of trucking - they'd be checking all of your receipts with the records available where you stopped - against your paper log. Make a mistake on the log, errors in time between the log and a receipt, and you'd be in the same can of worms as with your electronic tags. There's not a real big difference there. If you're elogging however, all of this should match up. Theoretically.

It still boils down to the same thing. Drive through a school bus, kill a bunch of kids - and they'll be looking for anything they can find to hang you. Don't screw-up.

back in the "stone age" the smart ones didn't leave a paper trail....

fuel was bought with cash and toll receipts were hidden and anything that did have a time stamp was altered or again hidden..

According to prepass there is no time stamp on when you go by or through a scale. There is a date stamp that tells what day & what truck.
