when you get to school tell them the kind of meds and they will give you the info your looking for.
mauidave22 Thanks this. -
NO !!!
Don't offer ANY information to anyone about your health that is not REQUIRED.
Not only is your personal medical stuff none of their business, It is actually LEGALLY protected.
Consult your DOCTOR about your questions.
Tell him what you are wanting to do, what the hours are, and get HIS opinion.
Why so forceful an answer?
Because it's unwise to give too much info to anyone, and you are seeking medical advice from those who don't have a clue.
Nobody without the letters "M.D." behind their name has the ability to counsel you on your prescribed meds, and noone knows more about "why" than the one who wrote the script.mauidave22 and formertaxidriver Thank this. -
It depends a lot on the meds and what the FMCSA and DOT have to say about them. You can call the DOT and make an anonymous inquiry about the medications. Your family dr might be able to tell you. In my experience, most family docs know very little about the commercial regs to give proper advice.

When I have trouble falling asleep 1 tab of melatonin, usually knocks me right out.I don't like nytol, cause it gives me a hangover the next day.The melatonin doesn't have that effect and it's a natural substance that your body produces,so it's totally safe if used as directed;no script needed.

Offer them NOTHING as a question such as that will in all probability disqualify you.
Check with a drug testing consortium about legality of drug, melantonin (sp) is an excellent choice also.mauidave22 and I am medicineman Thank this. -
That has to be the worst advice I have seen on here.
Of course the MD knows more than beurocrats.
Why would you think otherwise??
And if there is any question, then YES an ANONYMOUS inquiry to DOT will get you answers.
But the list of "no-no" drugs is VERY short to begin with, so it really isnt as big a deal as you may think.
And like I said, ALL of your medical information is protected by HIPPA.
You don't have to reveal SQUAT that isn't found on your physical..
Just tell the medical professionals who do any drug screens by ALL medications accurately on the form, and be sure to have a copy (photocopy is ok) of prescription.
IF you do find that your medication is unacceptable, then do as MGFG suggested and try to get an alternative.
As for me, I use diphenhydramine (benadryl) on the rare occaisions when I need a little extra help nodding. -
Under HIPAA, there is no violation when a driver has to report their medical health to the company.
People like you fail to understand that the company is liable for the medical health of the employee who operates their vehicle.
As far as HIPAA, I have a very good knowledge on it. -
you cannot take any of the current prescription sleeping aids and drive a truck, you can however take melatonin or benadryl. I occasionally suffer from bad insomnia, my Dr. was going to give me Lunestra to try, but it is not approved by DOT because it can make you drowzy even after 10 hrs of sleep until you get used to it.
I am medicineman Thanks this.
