Remodeling is where the money is. I charge my customers $35 per piece for a kitchen installation normally. Recently, I charge $65 per piece for a particularly difficult kitchen.

In new construction, that install fee is more like $15-20 per piece, which is what I was changing a decade ago after Hurricane Ivan.

But some people would rather have a turd sandwich than no sandwich at all, so it gets done for that amount.

 

General Dynamics here in town has been hiring welders for a while now. Starting pay at $40/hr for a welder with basic certification and 0 experience. They are offering one of the best benefits packages in the country, will hire with no experience, train and send welders to get the specialized certification they require, all on their dime.

And they can't find people that want to work.

By the sounds of it around here the demand for welders is so low and there are so many of them with their B Pressure ticket that welder wages are in the toilet.
