    A four cylinder? Are you sure it wasn't a 6v71? They did make a for cylinder, but it was mostly for small buses and industrial equipment. Small trucks like a duece and a half size.

    He said it was a four banger. Mid to late '40s. He was new in the business, and didn't know better. It originally was a dump truck, but he pulled that off and put a sleeper on.

    For those who don't know how inappropriately small an engine this was, a 289 Ford that was in the first Mustangs was bigger.

    4-71's were very common in the late 40's early mid 50's GMC, they did have some 6-71's in the later trucks. If you ever have a chance to visit the Keystone tractor museum just south of Richmond, VA, you will see a beautiful GMC with a Detroit from about 1953. I personally like their big Diamond T semi, wow love to put some miles on that O'l girl. :)

    Ya i know they used mostly 4 cylinders up until the late 50s. I just didn't think bean was that #### old. You on the other hand...
