Please post the FMSCA reg that says its illegal for a driver to have a drink while off duty, but in his sleeper.
hurry...........
I think whats happened is you've confused company policy with DOT law.If that truck is moving then yes its against the law to have opened or unopened containers in the cab/sleeper.
Swift's company policy probably was NO alcohol in the trucks... ever. I can understand why. Too many folks without the sense to not drive for 10+ hours after their last one.
I didn't drive for companies like that, so narcing on me wouldn't have ever done you any good. lmao
But like I said I very rarely ever drank even one beer while on the road, so its basically a mute point as far as me personally.
Prime example of why Swift Drivers have the reputation they do!

This is not about having poor driving skills its about a "Trainer" teaching a new driver that courtesy is no longer required when on the road.
The its all about me attitude that so many people have is what is really making us look bad, so you can continue to live and let live by sitting in your truck watching trucks go round the truck stop waiting for some clown who shares your same ideals.
Just for the record, I am far from perfect and have never professed to be!!!
But I am COURTEOUS, and RESPECTFUL of the other drivers out there who I know have worked just as hard as I have today and do my best to not make things any more difficult for them then they already are.
Your opinions are yours, and I can respect that.
But the way you bring them across shows you have no respect for anyone else.
Thank Youbigwillygbcs and otherhalftw Thank this. -
It seems so many Swifties are feeling attacked because of my post, but thats far from the case.
While its the maybe not the most direct way to learn some thing I would bet you dollars to donuts that both the Student, and Trainer learned something that day!
I am quite sure that that Student will think twice before he parks somewhere "easy" for his convenience especially when it "could" inconvenience others.
If you work for Swift, I will wave at you (like I do any other trucker I meet), I will help you get into a parking spot (like I do for other trucker that needs it), and I wont treat you any differently then anyone else out on the road, until you prove that you have no respect for the rest of us out there by your actions.
For all new hires who are directed to do something which you feel is not right by your trainer, take him to task by doing it properly and show him how it should be done....
Not just "The Easy Way"

Brickman, I hope you don't think I was accusing you or anyone of being an alcoholic. You see I am an alcoholic. I'm a friend of Bill W.'s. I've been sober for 28 years now. I would never accuse anyone of this.
And I really did think it was illegal. Thanks for correcting my misconception. And besides.....if you're drinking in your sleeper I'm not going to see am I? *smiles* -

Its guys like you that CRACK ME UP and make me sad at the same time.
One, your a sheep.
Two... Your a sheep.

I wasn't talking to you.
Congrats on being "free"
I could have easy been a alcoholic. But I recognized the symptoms early in myself and put a stop to it. I was drinking hard alcohol then. Once I no longer craved it, I would allow myself to drink beer. No adverse effects like the hard stuff.
I drank ONE long neck last week. First time in a couple weeks.
Some times on the road if I had had a really bad day/week I would have 2 maybe 3 before bed. It relaxes me and allows me to sleep better. Other wise a 6 pack at the house would last me a couple months. -
Good for you Brickman that was very wise of you.
I don't fault anyone for having a drink. Just not if they're going to drive.

I agree!!!
In the days before having a CDL I will admit I deserved a DUI, more than once. Once I got the CDL I guarded that at all costs.
I've been laughed at and given some weird looks for not have a couple of cold ones at the end of a work day. Because I had to
drive to get home.
The witch that nearly killed my brother and nephew a few weeks ago blew .31 officially. Unofficially she was .36.Texas-Nana Thanks this. -
I won't lie, before I got sober I deserved a DUI on a number of occasions. And I can also say that I never thought I was "that" drunk. So I figure most people who drink and drive are making the very same mistake......they just don't realize how drunk they really are.
Now my drugs of choice are chocolate and idle-aire.
