A brief is on the opening page of this "thetruckersreport" website. Also on OOIDA website:

Speed Limiter Rule On The Horizon

New regulation is coming down the pipeline exactly as fast as was predicted – which shouldn’t be a surprise given what it concerns. The speed limiter rules that the DOT warned might be coming this year are indeed slated to be published before the end of the year.
The DOT has just sent the proposed rule on to the office of the Secretary of Transportation last week and it is expected to make its way to the White House’s Office of Management and Budget for approval in early September. It is expected that the rule will be published on December 12[SUP]th[/SUP] to begin its 90-day public comment period.

they go 53-57 and are getting close 10mpg. now if you are a company driver and don't care what it cost your company then by all means run 80mph. I know a few prime guys they run between 54-57 and do really good. I think the bottom line is what counts right? do the math 1000 mile load doing 70-75 and same load at 54-57. you don't have to be very smart to figure this out.. but some of the ole super truckers would rather blow a couple hundred out those stacks instead of putting in bank,,, truck it up driver!!!!

you know a few prime guys averaging 54 - 57. imagine how much better they could do at 75.

yep, the bottom line is what counts. and at the end of the year. my bottom line will be 50% higher.

nope, you don't have to be very smart to figure it out. FASTER IS AND ALWAYS WILL BE BETTER.

while your saving 200 a week in fuel. for a lousy $50 bonus. i'm making $200 MORE per week. and if i'm making more. the company is obviously making more. by burning $200 more in fuel. revenue increases $3000.

put a prime truck in our operation. and let them run the way prime wants you to run. you'll be broke before the end of the month.

it takes us 5 days to run 4 loads averaging 750 miles. it can be done in 4 1/2 days if everything goes smoothly. which normally don't. that's 3000 miles.

what does it take prime. 8 days?????? 9 days?????

we have 24 hours to deliver our loads. we're not given the luxory of 2 or 3 days and lali gagging our sweet time. we're a daytime operation. not a 24/7 operation. and we don't have appointment times. we show up, unload/reload, and leave.

becuase we go faster, we get there sooner, MORE SLEEP. it also means, the faster we do our job. the sooner WE GO HOME.

like you said, the bottom line. the faster we go, the more loads we haul. the bigger our paychecks. and that far outweighs those measly fuel bonuses.

so you just keep on going slow. i'll enjoy running circles around you. and spending my weekends at home. spending the extra money.

sorry, but slower is NOT better.

4 @ 750 mile loads is 3000 miles total... driven at 50 mph would take 60 driving hours. That's 6 @ 10 hour shifts. So while you may take 5 days to run it as fast as your bucket 'o bolts can rattle down the highway, we'd get it done in 3, at a leisurely 50 mph.

Snowwy, I can tell that you don't run dry van or reefer. If you did, you'd know that running faster simply means a longer wait at your dropoff location.

I can also tell that you are a company driver, or otherwise not responsible for your fuel costs. Going from 60 to 75 can increase your fuel bill by 50%. On a 600 mile segment, you get there 2 hours sooner, but spend $160 more for fuel. Sorry, but I'm not going to pay $80/hour to sit and wait to be unloaded.

I know that there are jobs out there where faster = more money. For the most part, pulling a box (warm or cold) isn't one.

By definition, you spend as much time going downhill as you do going uphill...

I run the hills of PA/NJ daily, weighing around 70K, and my condo Volvo runs around 7.8-8 MPG.

Newsflash: Team &0m0. You and your 50mph are a frickin road hazard. Do 50 on the turnpike and enjoy your ticket for going too slow. It's strictly enforced for a reason. It's dangerous!
