I implore any veteran to no allow any school to touch their GI Bill... Unless it is a reputable community college or University.

These "for profit" schools are shady at best and overcharge when they got a vet hooked. These schools offer classes with credits that can't be transferred. Yeah, they'll get you done quicker but will it be a pace you can keep up with. I know 5 people who attended these kinds of "technical institutes" and "online colleges". Only one graduated, and the less than spectacular job locating assistance got I'm one job offer in one year. He turned it down as he found a better one on his own at the same time.

I used my GI Bill for a couple years to go to community college. I worked part time and was able to attend full time. You get paid for each month of completed course work... They will advance 2 months at the begging of the semester to cover tuition and books, and then payments resume after the third month. Also maintain above a C avg. There was enough extra money for the semester that I lived pretty comfortable with a part time job.

Either direction you choose to take, if you don't live up to your obligations while in school with the GI Bill, the government will get their money back... No collection agencies...you just don't get you tax return until it's paid... So don't think you can dodge em.

Yup. Once you get in the air and get the autopilot slaved, there isn't much to it.

Don't do pretrip, have no business driving truck or flying plane, but you do what you want.

I agree with U2 on this one 100%. There is such a massive lifestyle change between the kind of life folks live in one place and OTR trucking that many folks just can't deal with it. That's a good part of the driver turnover that many carriers experience with new folks. Why take your GI Bill education benefits throw them into a CDL school just to decide in a year or two that you can't stand what you're doing?

Save the education benefits for a college degree. There are places you can get a CDL for practically nothing outside of a hitch with the trucking company.

I notice these so called forum hallmoniters are very rude....so what if he told them he saw a shrink. Is there something wrong with being honest now days???? Trucking companies are the largest sweatshop on wheels we have in the work place today. And you put someone down cause he was honest. Some of these drivers go to orientation looking like and smelling like a pig sty and they get keys to the truck.....give me a break and show some class!!!!:biggrin_2558:

This much we can agree on, the aviation world went in the toilet. You can't make jackshit without experience and you can't get experience because you get furloughed every 6 months. I had my fill of it, now I just fly for fun or do some instructing here and there.

Well, between all of this stuff that he wrote,

...and the fact that he threw a fit during his job interview and security had to get involved, I would say that this person has anger issues which cannot be blamed on Prime. I don't think I would want him driving my truck either.

The longest I was ever able to hang onto an aviation job was three years. That was a sweet job, didn't pay all that much, but I didn't have to work much, either. As long as the plane got off of the ground every day, they were happy, and I was happy. My job was mostly just about making friends with the pilots, sometimes a little babysitting and trying to keep them out of trouble. Unfortunately, we lost the contract for that run, and that was that. I never found another aviation job that I liked, and one day at my crappy job, while I was trying to scrape sealant out of a fuel tank, they told me that I had to leave all of my tools on the hangar floor and go across the street for a urine test. I quit, and went back to college, which is what I should have done in the first place.
