My husband has been leasing a truck from Prime Inc for about 8 months now, everything is fine with the lease, but where did the loads go?! The last three weeks have been really bad compared to everything previous. Every time he asks what is up he is informed it is the economy. He was told that Prime is down over a 1000 loads across the whole country. He met another Prime driver and asked him how he was doing and he said that he just got done sitting for 3 days. He asked if he should switch to flat bed from reefer and was told they were worse for loads. They suggest he become a trainer! Does that make sense? I have been reading different web sites and have learned that reefer loads go down during this time of year until about Feb. is this true? What I would like to know is this a Prime problem or are loads down that much every where? Hate to leave if we dont have to but need to keep running so if changing companies is neccesary... Concerned truckers wife
Prime Inc. has no loads?

Its bad right now,it may get better in the new year but dont give your hopes up. Its not just prime its slow every where.I have talk to drivers and most of them are getting less less miles. It is that time of year where it does get this slow but never seen it this bad.
-
It's defnitely not just Prime. Freight is slow for everyone except for those niche items that are not subject to the whims of the markets. I have been sitting for entire weekends for the last couple months and lately it's been brutal. You get a load, deliver and sit for a while waiting on another. ESPECIALLY in the southeast region it seems.

Thank you for replying! Any input is very appreciated!

I was going to wait until the end of the work week (Tues is the last day to scan paperwork for Friday's check) and report on the slowdown.
Right now, and its Friday. Ive had 2 loads for a total of 793 miles. I was hoping for a good long, over weekend load... I dont know, they have been warning us for a couple weeks, I guess I have been lucky getting the miles I have. -
Do you run reefer or flatbed?

Don't look for it to get much better after the first.
Most analyst I've been hearing (not mainstream), are referring to summer 2009, as the Summer In Hell.
They haven't been wrong in the 3 years I've listened...I'm hoping they totally flop on this one.
I've never heard an economic adviser recommend buying a GUN in my life, until this week. Gun stocks yes...but guns for personal and property protection...no. -
Well a certain company must be doing ok cuz they ponied up the money to return 20 cases (small cases with 2 boxes each) of chocolate that got rejected because the shelf life was just under 6 months.
300 plus miles, thats over 600 roundtrip. Boy, I was disappointed... finally something that gets rejected and is not lettuce, onions, or frozen chicken... wait for the call to throw it away... nope return it to the shipper. Thats a first for me.
BTW, if Im close to a truckstop, I will leave the reefer on and ask the Truck Stop manager about a local food bank and try to arrange something. If its a weekend/night or things dont work out, I just start offering it to the truckers.
Too bad about this one, it was some nice stuff. small cases, maybe 6"x12"x3" -
Hey U2!
I think it depends on where you end up empty at... just not that the economy is in the tank. The deal on the 1000 loads was it was one Monday after a holiday. Management shifted everyone affected west a few hundred miles to get as many drivers a load as possible, instead of just letting the drivers in New England sit for a few days.
Been running good the last couple of weeks, quite frequently getting loaded before I'd really like. Got empty late today... slow grocery warehouse. Weekend dispatch kept up a line of well, we're trying, but you didn't get unloaded quickly. So it looks like I'm sitting for the first time in a couple of weeks, at least for the evening.
It is hit and miss...
Best thing to do is to make the best of every load, and be careful with your discretionary spending. -
It is slow, and NO, do not go to flat beds. Prime is one of the few companies I see out here on a regular basis. I worked for them years ago. Good outfit in regards to freight in my book.
I went from this... All my own equipment and thank God it is all paid for!
