I currently have CRST Malone giving my perfect credit score a black eye due an account they sent to collections. I did everything I could to settle up with them (before it was considered an outstanding balance) for what I owed but they insist that I pay for base plates I never even got. They can't even prove they mailed them to me and they never gave me one in person either. CRST are scum. Don't pay them one red cent, driver.

Righteous indication aside, if he signed a contract and didn't fulfill his end of the bargain he's going to get sued, and he will lose. Then he'll have a judgement on his credit report.
-
Wonder how much he stiffed the company for?
-
This is the main reason lenders will sell off the debt to collectors for so cheap. They have zero proof there is a valid contract, so no proof that any money is owed. The debt collector only has the standard fear and harassment tactics.
If it ever gets to court, all the op has to do is demand Prime produce his signature. When they cannot the case is dismissed. If, on the very small chance they do have the contract, he can ask the court to setup payment plans and most courts will.
My point is, since it's been so long might as well force Prime to push the issue, don't bend over for them. -
I'd understand if Prime screwed him over or he didn't obtain his cdl, but it sounds like wah wah I can't handle otr trucking I quit, how dare you charge me for feeding me for a week, train me, and get my cdl. I seriously doubt this was the first attempt at contact on this debt, but I certainly have no way of knowing the circumstances.
Edit:. I should mention way back when I went through training there was a couple of guys that were there just to get there cdl, they had jobs lined up and were going to bail once they had it, because it was cheaper than cdl school in their area. Of course they planned on paying it off because they weren't complete scumbags. -

I say, contact Prime, offer them 1/3 in cash or one half if they take payment and try to work something out. Prime will sell the debt to a collection agency for pennies on the dollar. You do OWE they money,so offer them more than the agency will give them, and try to save little yourself. Learn to bargain.

And it's not like the op is going to pay. If he was, he would have 5 years ago.
As for the 30 day, thats debt collection bs scare tactics. -
Trying to collect a debt isn't illegal. you are somewhat correct about their business practices. Just a little FYI though, they don't expect the debtor to pay, they expect to file a suit that the debtor doesn't answer then get a judgement and go for a garnishment. Do a little research on the term "sewer service". If the debt is within statute and actually yours, not talking to them doesn't help.Dan.S Thanks this. -
If I were starting out getting my CDL thru a mega training school with a contract, I would keep a log of all the times the company failed to live up to THEIR end of the bargain. Every time detention wasn't paid as stated, every unpaid trailer search, breakdown time, layover, every week they were unable to provide me at least the average number of miles they claimed, etc. then, if I decided to leave early, I'd add it all up and subtract it from the bill.
