A female driver with 6 years experience with Swift explained his dilemma of losing miles from her past 2400 mile/week to 1000 mile/week. At a rate of $0.25/mile, she makes $200 per week. Her next plan was owner/operator, which many people in the room voted down.

I do not know Prime beyond the youtube stories. But, my guess is that trucking could only be enjoyed as a touring expedition rather than a mean of earning living.

It wasn't "missed". It had been covered ad - nauseum the month it was posted. :)

Do you mean you get 600 net pay or gross??? I work for swift transportation and I make 600 a week gross and like 510 net. yes its true that it's minimum wage but if you put in 50 hrs a week driving and 10 on duty your guarantee good pay and in one month your done. The 30k team driving thing sounds like they have you guys driving like dogs I'll rather just drive dedicated learn how to reverse every day and still make the same. If you want proof I'll take a pic of my check stub and post it. Plus if your new don't expect a lot. If I was you and if team driving is good I'll join a owner operator crew which in terminals people work for them and make 20 cents a mile teams and you will make will 1000 up every week but no benefits. Plus I do know people who make 1800 a week in swift my mentor is one of them

What's the difference in swift vs prime? I am looking into both companies but not sure what should I pick. Been reading on the forms and most of the people on this site HATE Swift and tells me to go with prime but not sure. How is prime CDL school vs swifts? I hear that prime is hard to get a job with vs swift is that true?

Prime has a lot better training. Prime is mostly reefer and Swift is mostly dry van. Out of the two, I'd pick prime. Take a look at their sub forum

    From my reasearch...

    Prime has:
    • A longer training period
    • A higher starting wage (38 - 43 cpm. see notes below)
    • APU and high power Inverters
    • Small sleeper berth
    • $700 per week after passing CDL and driving w/ trainer for 30,000 miles
    Swift has:
    • Full size sleeper berth (Full and mid-roof)
    • 300w Cigarette plug inverters
    • Currently installing driver facing cameras
    • Shorter training period
    • $400 per week while training OTR (this may have changed recently)
In my opinion Prime's training is too long, but that's just my opinion. Also, Prime says that starting pay is 38 cpm if you choose a full size sleeper, and 43 cpm if you choose a small "Eco49" truck. In reality it seems that you may have a hard time actually choosing a full size sleeper.

There are a few other programs worth looking into. Do your research and realize that it's only a year. And also, if you just save your first few months of paychecks, you can buy out your training and move on if you really need to. And if you just save up and have the buy-out money available, you may feel less trapped.

Here are the 5 training companies, that after researching, I felt would be best for me:
Maverick has a training program that looks pretty good, website info is scarce, and the website says to call for more info.
Knight Transportation ( http://www.driveknight.com/pc/Training/index.html ) runs a CDL training program and hires from the following states:
    • Arizona
    • Colorado
    • Idaho
    • Nevada
    • Oregon
    • Utah
    • West Texas (El Paso)
I live in Michigan, so their program was not available to me.

Thank you for your reply I would think a longer training period would be a good thing. It sounds like prime is the place to go but i read that its harder to get a job at prime then swift.
