And about Prime, I would go back. Now, that I have my experience and all. I just wasnt going to go through their training over some b.s that wasnt my fault when the fleet manager and the trainer that I was assigned to copped an attitude over me arriving late to the terminal on their shuttle when the shuttle driver decided he would make the trip from the motel to the terminal more productive. And pick up other people from a seperate location who also had to go the terminal instead of taking one person (me) to the terminal and then going to get the others. IF Prime would let me go back now, I sure as hell would. My brother in law drove for them leased from them, will tell you flat out he black balled himself there. My grandparents teamed for them, company and/or lease (lease I am 100% sure of, company I am not too sure) and they drove there for years. I would go to Prime, if they would let me.

    Depends.

The old leases were set at 72, and you had to have a track record and managements permission to get it set at 76. These days, all the new leases are set at 65 due to the speed limiter deal in Canada. 78? Can't say where that came from...

78? Plan on about 4.5 mpg. At 120,000 miles per year, thats about 27000 gallons of fuel

At 55 your looking at around 7.5 mpg. Thats around 16000 gallons. At 2.50 per gallon your looking at $27500 per year to afford that kind of speed - not including additional wear and tear on the rest of the tractor.

Not to mention the speeding tickets in states that have a max speed of 60/65/70 mph. Or the Peoples Speed Limit of 55 out in Cali.

Why is CA speed limit 55? Just because of the "lifestyles of the rich and famous"? They worried the movie stars pile of money will be blown away if we go any faster?

It's 55 because that's what the state legislature set it at for large commercial vehicles. The usual reasoning is that the lower speed limit is safer because of lower energy in large vehicles. The pratical result of split speed limits is a propensity for smaller vehicles to do much more dangerous things getting around us - statistical results do not bear out a lower accident rate involving CMVs in split speed limit states. Those statistics are what finally convinced Ohio and Illinois to do away with split speed limits.

Energy being a product of mass and velocity squared makes it doubtful that ten miles an hour less would make any significant difference in energy for an object weighing forty tons. Split speed limits, like a lot of laws, are passed as a "feel good" measure. The effect is only psychological; there is no measurable safety benefit.

55 mph is still the national speed limit.....
California gets a kick back from the u.s. Government to keep it 55 for trucks as with any state that chooses to do so.....
When states started to stray from the 55 mph national speed limit the federal government started cutting back funding but it really did not matter to alot of states since they could make more money "the individual states" by raising the speed limits of the 4 wheelers because of insurance premiums to raise and of course speeding tickets to follow......
Believe it or not some governors were getting swamped by angry motorist wanting faster speed limits to boot....
The smarter states said to heck with the federal government and raised their speed limits across the board and some split their speed limits which was an miserable failure due to accidents and just horrible management decisions but still hoping to hold on to some government funding which did happen....
Now days the funding has slipped by the way side because the states are making more money by raising the penalties to astronomical proportions .....
Lets face it the government is still slow to respond via payments " funding" .....
Back to the point california and oregon are still at 55mph for truckers and probably always will be its not an safety thing its an profit thing!..... Revenue, revenue, revenue......

For the guy who says i will run 55 all day because it is helping my mpg..... Ok i will buy that for his / her situation ....
Chances is he/ she is not an o/o and if he/ she was they would get their rear gear ratio switched out. ....
With an 18 speed in 16th going about 75 at 1400 rpm in an old pete379 i was averaging 6.5 mpg.....

Once you get your own truck and do your own work on it you will get the best mpg not by running 62 at company standards but by your own .... Get more done.... Live life as you want to live......
Fleece is a joke until you out right own a rig and then do whats right......

All you guys interested in Prime need to contact Dr. Zebra. He runs their driver's website and is a L/O at Prime. He is the #1 authority on Prime leasing, and calls the shots for all their drivers.

    cautus jack,
I agree 100% with what you said. 75mph at 6.5 is a great thing, making great time and mileage and getting them miles when you can.
