Hey KAW I plan to get my permit here in NC before I head to orientation. My question is, if I get my permit in NC, then go to Prime Orientation and cdl training in Missouri, do I have to go back to NC to get my CDL License or will I get issued a MO CDL license? A little confused about that, any help is much appreciated! Also, should I go for the hazmat endorsement or just concentrate on getting my basic cdl permit?

From my understanding you have to go back an get your license there too. (home state) I was going to get my hazmat, but the finger prints were going to take 3 weeks to get back. So I'm waiting til I get to prime since they are also going to do my finger prints for my twic card.

Once you get your license in MO youll be routed back to NC for your first hometime, you just transfer the license while there.

Having your permit prior to arriving takes stress off while in orientation. Those that dont have a permit only have parts of 2 days to study for the tests.

You can get your permit in NC and get your CDL with Prime in MO.

You are required to go back and transfer your CDL to your home state. However there are a couple states that are pretty unreasonable and have you take the driving test again. MA, IL and CA if my memory serves me.

You are more than welcome to start the process of the background check in your home state for hazmat, however you cannot transfer a hazmat endorsement obtained in MO to your home state. Id recommend just waiting till you transfer you CDL to your home state.

BTW, you have a specific time period to get your CDL transferred. I think its 30 days but it may be 60.

Hello fellow North Carolinian! Just got my permit today and was told I really should ALSO have a DOT physical
even though Prime will also do a DOT. Some new rule here. Not sure if it applies to other states, but tomorrow I got to a walk in to get one. Only $55.

    jvtruckerizme Thanks this.

It might not be a bad idea to go ahead with your fingerprinting now. It could easily be 3-4 weeks before you get back home... just a thought.
