Get your nc cdl A permit before u go there,Saves u a day of testing and u can be out on pad getting ready for a trainer... Go there and MAKE SURE YOU ARE ON TIME AND NOT LATE TO ANY CLASSES...Dont fail drug test or lie to them... When ur on the pad listen to what they tell you..Dont go to bars at nite.. When u pick a cdl instructor make sure u will get along with him...I was there with a guy who had like 4 diff cdl instructors within a week after the 5th they sent him home.... Driving is not for everyone... You will hear the whining from the people who are there just to get a paycheck.. You will start with alot of people but after first day ull loose them to drug test, physical, lying on application, or they change mind when they find out after they get there CDL permit they cant go home for a week or two before they go on the road to train.

I have 7 months experience and needed 20k miles with trainer before going solo. Orientation was easy, here is the process,

ARRIVAL Day: You arrive the day before orientation starts, check in, go to SIM Lab do a skills test get the PAPER application to be filled out before class the next morning.

DAY 1: 7am be in class ON TIME. Get finger printed fill out all kinds of paperwork MAKE SURE the GOLD application is complete.
    A) See onsite doctors office do your drug test and physical
    B) take gold packet to office and go over history verification, GET CLASS SCHEDULE.
    c) videos and various classes

DAY 2: TWIC & PASSPORT registration along with various class

DAY 3: More classes, finish anything needed by Doctor or otherwise

DAY 4: More classes and get ready to leave.

When you get there based on experience and what you need they give you a specific training schedule

I hope this helps I just went through 2 weeks ago and have 8000k left on my 20k with trainer.

CAGE, did you go to SLC for orientation ? They got me down as a c seat driver. Finished school last week and go cdl in hand. Can hardly wait to get back into truck and drive, sure hope to get a good trainer because I know that I have A LOT to learn. Will keep you posted as things go. Any words of wisdom beyond those already posted here would be a great help.

    Hello all,

I just want to ask a question about what to expect to be prepared and stay a step ahead.

I'm leaving for Pittston PA in the morning to start orientation.going in as a c seat.

3 days orientation then out with a trainer for 40,000 miles.

If anyone can give me a run down I would greatly appreciate it!!!!

Thank you hope to meet some o you soon:biggrin_255:

Hello. I've had my CDL for 9 years. Been OTR a bit, but nothing verifiable. I've been a Van foreman/ local class A driver for a moving company for the last 7 years. I lost my job 2 months ago, and have had no luck getting another one. a couple odd jobs here and there. Lost my apartment last week, now living w/ friends. I have a dui that's just over 3 years old, and no verifiable OTR. So it's been pretty near impossible getting work as a truck driver. I finally got into contact w/ a recruiter at prime, her name is Danielle, between her and Silk, I think they will do everything they can to get me approved. I've been upfront with them aboat everything includining felonies that are over 15 years old. Except the DUI. Prime says they'll hire with DUI's that are over 3 years old. I don't know why I'm posting, just hoping someone could maybe post something positive in response. Days are long, can't find work, I can't count the number of online applications I've posted, and the various temp agencies I've physically gone to that don't have work. Anyway, Danielle says she'll contact me either way, she seems pretty awsome, and is trying hard to get me approved. Anyway have an awsome night drivers. Ron

You'd better disclose the DUI. If you don't they will find it when they do the comprehensive background check at orientation... fast way to find a long, slow way outta there on a Greyhound.

    Everett Thanks this.
