Recently I enrolled in Roadmaster's training program but for some reasons decided to leave. (If you want to get into that here's the story: http://www.thetruckersreport.com/truckingindustryforum/threads/roadmaster-indy.288631/ )
Prime is my first choice for various reasons and upon graduation I planned on attending orientation in Springfield.
I've talked with another school in the area and I can start training there on Monday, 7/6. Out of pocket for $4k, and I'll go to Prime upon graduation.
Or I can keep my original orientation date, 7/13, and get my CDL and training through the 1-year contract.
I'm debating which would be the better choice and I'm really leaning towards letting Prime pay for my training. My ultimate goal is to get the best training possible, so in your guys' "expert" opinions, would attending a private school benefit me at all on top of Prime's training?
Any insight from someone who knows the industry would help me out greatly.
I already have my permit, tanker, and doubles/triples.

I recently went through the psd program back in January and my personal experience as I searched into truck driving schools prime is an excellent training program. One on one ratio to student to instructor all hands on, on the job training compared to a truck driving school where it could be x amount of students to one instructor. I have never regretted my decision to come in to prime to get my cdl.
Another thing from what I've heard even fresh graduates of a school with their cdl will still have to do the 40k miles because of the lack of otr experience.

Me personally went through a private CDL course at the local college. I didnt want to be tied into a year long contract if I didnt like the company. Considering my MBGI Bill paid for it, that was the best option for me.

We paid for our CDL school so we had the option of working anywhere.

Broshears, I've read through your posts about getting started with Prime and I'm currently in the same boat as far as employment verification. Faxing my W2s to my recruiter tomorrow and I should be golden.
I feel like I've done enough research on Prime that I'm confident I'll be happy there for at least a year so the contract doesn't really scare me, and even if I were to break the contract the buyout is $3,600 if I'm not mistaken. That's $400 less than the tuition of the school I would be going to.
The only thing that worries me is some benefit to a private school I might not realize. For instance after 5 years or however long with Prime, will I be less likely to be hired by another company if I went through Prime's training instead of a private school? -
if you spend 5 years OTR with prime and you've kept your record clean you could go anywhere. i mean anywhere. you would have risen above 99% of the national driver pool. seriously, what school you went to after you have 1+ years of experience wouldnt matter at all.

Prime has a good reputation, so does their school. The only negative about them is the speed..

Thanks. I've decided to go with their company training. I'll be headed to Sprimo on the 13th if I can get a spot in orientation. If not I'll be there on the 20th.

the speed is a double edged sword really. sure you cant go fast, but you get a fuel bonus. i have ambitions of owning my own truck one day so i lean more towards economy. plus with new regulations coming into play by these big companies (the national big truck speed limit thing) get used to it.
