monster.com has well over 1,000,000 jobs on there EVERY day...Many other reputable online job sites do as well(i.e. careerbuyilders.com), there are jobs out there but people won't take something that pays close to what they can collect sitting on their butts doing nothing...If you don't have a mortgage, you may have to move, oh well, that's the way it has always been, people have always gone to the jobs, they don't wait for them to come to them...If they did, the people in MI, for example, will be waiting forever...And when was the last time you looked in a newspaper and didn't see any jobs?...People are too picky and would rather take less doing nothing...And I bet if that UE ended in 2 months, instead of 80 wks, you'd have had a job doing something...

Not arguing with you that there are some jobs out there but everytime i see someone make this argument they just assume that because the job is there that you can just run out and say hey i want this job and they give it to you simply because the job was advertised and you saw it first. It doesnt work that way especially not these days. There are dozens upon dozens if not hundreds of applicants for everyone of these jobs you are talking about these days. I am not saying it is impossible to find some kind of employment but the argument you make makes it sounds like you can just go out and grab that job you see in the paper. Thats is not the case or even close to it these days. Take it from a guy that is in the job hunt right now. Its not as simple as you try to put it. And the thing about packing up and moving, do you really believe with your hole heart that its that easy for people to just pack it up and move these days?????? It just doesnt work like that for most people. It just doesnt. And by the way, i dont know where that guy lives, but in my area there have been fregwuent times recently that there have been no new job postings. People in small/smaller towns just dont open up their local paper and have 20 different jobs staring at them everyday when the paper comes out.....i know, i know...then we should move. Its that easy.

    Exactly.

So many people are out of work, for a single "entry level" position, companies are receiving 100 + applications; meaning they can really pick and choose who they want to hire, and chances are, someone is more qualified yet willing to take that entry level pay.

So, in many cases it isn't due to lack to effort to get back to work. It's just an "employers market".

    >>>There are dozens upon dozens if not hundreds of applicants for everyone of these jobs you are talking about these days.

And those taken jobs are replaced everyday with new ones which is why there are MILLIONS advertised EVERYDAY...And no, it's not easy to pick up and move, just a necessary evil at times, but it can be done and is done everyday...Everything that's necessary isn't always easy...

And again, I'll reiterate, if UE ended in 2 mths and not 2yrs, people would be working...

How many of those jobs are legit jobs and how many are multi-level marketing scams, etc. It takes money to move, and if a person has tight income, then that's a lot easier said than done. You have to have money for security deposit and rent, moving truck (looked at the prices of those lately?), setting up utilities, etc, etc, etc. If you are currently in a lease on an apartment or house, you can't just up and leave or you are breaking that lease, and the owner can come after you for the full rent through the end of that lease. What if you have kids in school? There is a process for that.

If I had my way, we'd be living in a different state right now, but have to have the pieces in place for the move to do it. Right now the funds aren't there to do the move.

Walstib ...I got hurt in June...as of Jan1st I was able to return to work.......I have been ignored, not hired and plain old fashioned been blackballed by the company I was working for. I've tried getting jobs all over the US...Local, regional....no one will hire me....and yeah I'm on unemployment because my employer used a friggin loophole and I got denied work comp...and have had to pay for all my health care....and yet I can't get a job...so I called my ex employer that has safety ratings in alert categories to see if I can go back to work...cause that's all I got......there are too many people out of work it is an employers market....not the employee's ....high unemployment means they can be picky...low unemployment means they can be picky...but so can you.....

Yep -- something IS better than nothing. Trucking companies could be offering 10 cents a mile and have people begging to drive. It's better than nothing, eh?

Things certainly may have changed in the last couple years. But I was unemployed for just over 3 years (only worked during the summer months) while attending college. They had no problem with the fact that I was a full time student instead of working.

I was then laid off from my job in January 2009, but began my CDL training with a private school the same month. I collected unemployment for one month, which the government forced me to pay back after I got a job. Prime ended up hiring me in late February, almost a month after I graduated from my CDL school.

Again, things very well may have changed. But that's how I got hired back in early 09'.

I also have to agree with Lilbit. Type in any job...for anything. Well over half the search results are "Marketing" "Sales" and "MLM Work from Home!" positions. They are all BS and usually 100% commission type jobs. In other words, they only have to pay you if you make them money. Make no money? No paycheck. And those scam positions are almost impossible to make money at. Those who fall for the Multi-Level Marketing online gimmick are just setting themselves up for disaster.

The real jobs have more competition than most of us can compete with. Why do you think so many of us with college degrees are sitting behind the wheel of a truck these days? This certainly isn't what I had in mind while attending a University and going up to my eyeballs in debt. Luckily, I enjoy what I do. But there are many people who are driving trucks right now and working at McDonalds with college degrees who are miserable.

My 17 year old niece can't get a job. Why? Who would hire a teenager when there are plenty of adults desiring the same job, for the same income? She has applied to nearly every fast food chain, every restaurant, every bank, and every store within a reasonable driving distance of her home. Nothing. You can imagine the time she's spent filling out all those apps, and the frustration when all that time has yielded no results.

While I agree that those who collect unemployment out of laziness or lack of desire to care for themselves should be ridiculed, it's not always a clear cut case.

Many of you are still in denial about what is occurring in this country. You think we are "recovering." I'm sorry, everyone, but our country is in a downward spiral and it's only just begun. We are flat broke. Notice that I didn't say we are ABOUT to go into a downward spiral. It has already started, and it's happening right before our eyes. This isn't something that can only be seen in theory or on paper. It can be seen all around us, and heard on the news. Whether you can see it or not is all based on your level of awareness and / or denial. But answer me this...if we can't pay off our debts even if every American was forced to pay 100% income tax, than how do you expect our economy to recover? We're bankrupt, and we're in deep trouble.

    This is just the start.

It's pretty rough out there. At my last "whiz quiz" there was a 15 year old kid at the clinic waiting on the same thing. He was doing a pre-employment for Target, this was a minimum wage, part-time, shelf stocking job. They told him there were 300 applicants.

Johnsmith, don't feel like the lone ranger, but that's about all I've got for you. I know a few others who had a similar experience with Wyotech. See also UTI, Hesser, so on and so forth. I think it's more about the "for profit institution" than the private ownership. (and to think the local community college costs about $5,000 per year for the same program).

I wound up working part time for a couple of years, just recently started a full time job. I don't really like it, but it pays the bills and looking for a new job is a whole lot better knowing I'm earning money anyway.

Good luck, contrary to the "expert opinions" the recession isn't over yet.
