I am looking to run team with another kid from orientation. The only problem is that I am approaching 40,000 miles and he is about 10,000 behind me. Is there any chance he can get cut loose early? If not what do you recommend? He's looking to lease and i'm looking to stay company if it matters. Any help is appreciated

The time thing isnt a huge deal. the lease and Co driver thing is. I may be wrong on this, but most places work as follows,
If he leases and you co drive for him, that makes you his employee sorta speaking. Your pay will come out of his settlements. That can be good or bad. You can agree on a pay that works for both of you. I believe prime will even pay you out of his settlement so he doesn't have to do it. Theres alot more to it. Best to get with a lease op, or talk to somoene at prime about it. I know medical and such will be effected and all that. I honestly wouldn't co drive for someone i barely new unless we were running a company truck. -
Run solo until the other guy finishes training, no problem there. Now all you have to do is convince him what a terrible idea leasing is...
-
Yeah?
They're not going to cut him loose early. -
When he reaches 30,000 miles he has reached the MINIMUM miles required to upgrade. Most trainers will not release a new driver after only 30,000 miles. Its up to the trainer to decide when the trainee is ready to be on his own. I stayed with mine for 50,000 miles, and still had a lot to learn about running a truck on my own.
DragonTamerBrat and harleysmith64 Thank this. -
Lucky you I was released at 30 but trainer thought I was ready in this situation you can go solo then team but you may enjoy solo and not want to team later(i love solo) like Robert said if he goes lease you are his co driver/employee your pay comes out of his settlement think it thru 1st if you go that route just my opinion good luck

I'm at 34 now I may just go solo. I like the privacy and sleeping when stopped lol and not worrying about something happening to the truck while sleeping. How long after I'm at 40 do I get an upgrade ??? This guy is telling me it may be 2 weeks. ( I think hes trying to keep me on the truck for his own financial reasons ) although he swears I cost him 1200 a week
-
Its up to him when you get to upgrade.
-
He's fine with me going at 40 but he's saying it takes 2 weeks after he gives the ok? I'm his first trainee who made it past 3 weeks
-
It could take time to get routed back into Springfield to do the upgrade, but not sure how long. It all depends on how the loads fall.
