being a lease op is not always about just working hard a lot of us do, but its about the jobs you are assigned.if you dont get enough good ones you can go negative fast and then the snowball effect can keep you down, in my case for a month at a time,so sometimes you just have to cut your losses and go company.I realize i made a mistake with l/o realized it and changed what i do.

I hear what you are saying lilrobby, but I dont understand it. Maybe its in the dispatcher, or where you are dispatched out of, or some other insurmaountable problem. I dont know. From my POV i can only see it being driver error that causes yoou to fail, but I may be wrong. I know a lot of solos that are doing great, teams and trainers are doing even better. This is not to say that I have never been in the hole, Ill be in the hole after this two weeks off for the holidays, but it has never been a problem digging out of it. I wonder some times if DM's take on two many drivers and overwhelm themselves leaving some fall through the cracks. If this were to be the case I could see how the DM wouldnt be able to do for you what he should have, which would most certainly cause the problems you had.

a few things happened to me that set the negative weeks i had in motion, partly my fault some i will blame on simply not getting enough jobs to support my fixed costs during the so called busy season before xmas.i had a good working relationship with my fm i was even nominated for contractor of the month my first month by myself and even stayed out for two months a time put money away basically did everything that was suggested during orientation.its not that l/o is not for me just not at this time. you have to be prepared for the slow time you never know its coming and i had a lot of personal bills to catch up to and was not able to put more money away than i needed to for home time.so switching to company is for me not l/o.hindsight being 20/20 should have done it out of the gate.lesson learned on my part.i wanted to stay with prime so company is my option and lot easier than trying to find another job at this time.fm said he hated to lose me but understood my dilemma.

One mistake new L/O's make is worrying too much about mileage, and not enough about the rate they are getting. This week I'm going to have almost 2000 more miles than last week, and my profit is going to be almost $1000 less. Yeah, I'm running more miles right now, but which week do you think I'd rather do over and over.

more miles i know thats all i want !!!!!

What is a "G. D. truck"?
-
Gosh Danged . . .
-
That works as long as you are being paid by the mile on the company side. The fewer miles you run as a L/O for a given amount of revenue, the better off you are.
