    Not the last 2 weeks. I didn't make it by the house at all. Came within 50 miles or so but no time to stop. I am home now though, on some much needed down time. 10 hour resets don't give you much time to take care of any business or get things done that need getting done. Will be back out and at it on Tues am.

    I am in orientation in Pittston. Trying go get on the NE regional. There seem to be different runs in the NE. I live near Newark, NJ. What should I tell my fleet manager if I want a run that gets me by the house often?

    Can someone please give me a tutorial on that weight right thing. I have a meter for it in the truck but I don't know how to use it or what it is for? I saw a short video in orientation. That's about it.

    There's a video on the Right Weigh in the Driver's Online section of the company website. Look for "educational videos" - I think.

    Basically the next time you scale-out with a heavy load, the closer to 80,000 lbs gross weight the better, you can calibrate your Right Weigh scale. Take the axle weight for your drives in thousands of pounds and a small screwdriver and adjust the little adjustment screw on the face of the dial until it corresponds to the value shown on the CAT scale ticket. Make sure the truck is parked on a level surface - its better if you can leave the parking brake off when you're doing this. Make sure the truck isn't going to roll on ya!!!

    For example if your drive weight is 33,480 adjust the Right Weigh indicator until it is about half way between 33 and 34. Done.

    What I do is everytime I get a scale ticket after that is to compare what is on the ticket with the meter until I am satisfied that I have the calibration right. Its best to use loads that are in the neighborhood of 32,000 to 34,000 pounds. You may have to make small corrections until the values are repeatable enough that you feel comfortable trusting it.

    Its great for getting your tandems and drives set well enough to run down the road to the scales, but you should always still get a CAT weight to make sure you are legal when the axle weights are close to maximum.

    It's even better if you take your CAT ticket, pull back on the scale and calibrate the trucks weigh right gauge on the scale platform.... Don't have worry about being on level ground...

    Might as well do the trailer calibration while you are at it... You'll know it's good if you keep the trailer for the next load, or the next driver will appreciate it cause you will have noted the date and weight calibrated on the inside sticker of the trailer weigh right door.

    Wish more people would calibrate the trailers. I do on every trailer I run across a scale, just to make sure its done. Takes no time and who knows I might use that trailer again for another load.
