He's on his way to SpringMo; probably somewhere in PA right now. Orientation is on the 14th.

I dont think my question was clear. I'm asking if there is allot of frieght going through Newark, NJ area. I live near Newark and was wondering how often I would be able to swing by the house.

    Thanks

Do you see alot of the Northeast on the flatbed side? I see the reefers around here all the time (I'm right near the Pittston terminal), but I don't see too many flatbeds.

It's actually a complicated answer. Newark is probably one of the best places if you had to rank it among other cities in NJ.

Lot of Prime freight passing thru, picking up and delivery. I could list a dozen places we frequent nearby.

The complication is whether you will have any time to stop for any length of time. If you do have time, another question is if your FM and security will permit it. If you are loaded they may require a secure place to park f you can't park the truck and trailer physically at your house. Newark is Definatly not known for its low crime rate and that kinda stuff makes management especially nervous with a trailer full of freight.

Another problem is if you are NE regional a lot of that stuff is pickup and overnight delivery. Just from experiance, I don't imagine you having more than an hour or two to spend at home on most loads.

It maybe a just conspiracy theory but I hear a lot of guys complain that their FM won't send them anywhere near their houses unless they are going on hometime. The positive for you is living in Newark... It's a hub for a lot of north and south Traffic and not much of a stretch to catch the interstates heading into north west and SW PA. Not a lot of options for an FM to actively keep you out of the area.

Bottom line is... Yes a lot moves thru Newark. The opportunity to get thru is infinatly better going NE Regional vs. OTR 48 states. However, as NE Regional there maybe operational priorities or security issues that would prevent you from enjoying those opportunities.

Anyone who paints a sunny picture (recruiting) on this topic I would suspect, unless they are offering something of a dedicated route... And those are few and far between.

I am on the dedicated North East division and primarily run Maine to PA and PA back to Maine 7 days a week. I live in CT and am right on the freight line. I consider myself very lucky as do alot of my friends here at Prime. I am home several times a week for my 10 hours+ resets and also all of my 34 hour resets are home. I only have been close to Newark once while shutteling Walmart Freight out of the Pottsville, PA DC. But I run threw Newark all the time on I-78 this is a major freight line for us and you can and will see the house regularly. Most of ur North East frieght is Allentown, PA area to Maine. Then Northern , Maine back to Allentown, Area. I have done some other stuff in between but Primarily PA to ME.

I am currently home finishing a 10 hour reset but don't have to take off right away because my appt is at 9:30 tommorow am and I'm only 3 hrs away. So I don't know about any Conspiracy Theory. I just know that I am home more then most.

If I had it like that I would not be in a rush to find something else.

How is the pay with you guys? I know someone on the north east regional and one week he sent me a text with a pay check of over $1400. I know he does not make that every week but that's not bad.

Well, it was down to Central and Prime for me. I was set on going to Central, but I spoke to my recruiter at Prime, and he said that he could assign me to the Northeast Regional Fleet right out of Training........I'm hoping he's not saying that just to get me on the bus to SPRIMO:biggrin_25524: (if he did, it worked!!!!). You would have to be a fool to not take a deal like that as a newbie!!! The only downfall, is that the trucks are a bit small, and I'm a bit big (6'10'').
I am heading out Sunday to go to SPRIMO to start my training. I look forward to running into you guys out sometime/somewhere!

Heck 6'10' I sure hope your recruiter doesn't piss you off. Thats pretty darn big. Yea the regional trucks are pretty small for someone your size and I don't want to give you any false hope but they might work with you on your size and give you a larger truck.
