It's not on their dime. It's on you. They will front the money for the passport and TWIC, then turn around and take the money out of your next couple pay checks.

Is a TWIC card issued for a particular driver working for a specific carrier, or is it specific to the driver only, and remains valid if the driver changes carriers? How long is a TWIC card valid for?

Specific to the driver and goes with him wherever he goes, and I *think* it's 4 years, but I could be mistaken. Hubs is sleeping right now, or I'd ask him.

I understood this, was meaning I didn't have to pay for it upfront.

May as well also look at FFE and Central Refrigerated while you're at it. Seems like someone at Prime would at least tell you what the status of your application is.

Got accepted to MTC with TMC footing the bill. I would have left Prime for them anyhow eventually if Prime didn't treat me well.

Well my recruiter with Prime called me first thing Monday and gave me an apology for the run around I got and said he wasn't sure what happened but that he could see I wasn't getting calls returned and that I was being put off at every turn. They pay good and are right on my front door step so to speak so I am going to go with them and start Tuesday. This thread was referred to in another thread rather harshly so my apologies if I come off better than thou some how. I was really getting a run around and I am running short on cash and short on food and I have to get moved out of here and get my wife moved in with a relative for a while plus I had a job waiting on a "when am I going" answer the same as me, so getting the run around was really pushing me to the limits. Again, my apologies if I offended anyone.

I will be going on the Prime S.E. regional flatbed division if my recruiter told me right so I imagine I will be running ports at least part of the time. And I know it isn't totally on their dime, what I meant was I wasn't going to have to raise the money to do it up front is all. Personally I would like to already have the TWIC and passport ready when I go but $300 would push my cash limits a little far atm. I know doing this from broke is a bad idea but with the job I had I was only going to get farther in the hole and had to get out now while I still had a slim chance to make this work. Yes I will still go to TMC or another company if one of the many Prime horror stories becomes my own, but who wouldn't?

So Prime will start you in their flatbed division as a student?

Yup, I saw on here someplace that they put you through some extra training for it but my recruiter said that they have PSD and TNT flatbed trainers and that I will be going out with them to get both the driving and flatbed training and experience and that there was no extra training for it. To my understanding the only division not open to students is the tanker division and after driving straight truck tankers off and on for years I would say this is for a very good cause. especially with their tankers being smooth bore.
