Prime will be installing camera's in its trucks. Just heard at Friday's Meeting....

So,

what are some people trying to hide ?


Why would a company want to install cameras in trucks ?

Will this not save the company more money,

that it can pass on to its drivers ?



It may be interesting to see how this will play out.

 

Guilt,blame,shame,in order to save face ?

it's generally best to lay it on an innocent if at all possible.

 

Drivers don't fight.....

Consider me gone if they start that crap up,.. The lane departure, Cws, and optistop have already started driving me bananas.

 

It's micromanagement... Which no one wants. It's one thing if you have someone texting or screwing around on Facebook. Bit you don't need a camera for that, the authorities can simply go into the driver's phone account. But people in management have some idea that we just simply sit there with a smile on our face and just hold the steering while exercising the company's beloved smith system fantasy. I can guarantee if they put camera in this truck, and screw around with my dac if I choose to leave over it, they'll be getting a gooood look at one of my fingers.

 

Smith System will keep you out of a lot of trouble.

 

Obviously everything here is speculation.

I worked for a company that put these in their vans; the exact same ones that Greyhound uses on their buses. They are inertia activated; a hard brake, swerve, or impact will trigger the recording. Ours recorded for something like 12 seconds; 8 seconds before activation and 4 seconds afterward.

These cameras aren't going to be catching you picking your nose or scratching your butt. They will, however, prove your innocence when that idiot cuts in front of you and brakes to make the exit ramp, and you clip him.

The cameras quickly weeded out our bad drivers... the ones that had "near misses" due to texting and the like. The good drivers soon realized the value of having video to back up their claims in case of an accident. As we all know, incidents with 4 wheelers are generally due to the actions of the 4 wheelers, but the CMV drivers are typically considered to be at fault. Having that camera could very well save your job.

Our cameras would upload recorded clips at around 3 AM. It didn't take drivers long to realize that pulling the fuse, counting to 10, then putting the fuse back in would reset the camera. (It does, however, log the restart, so don't overdo it.)

 

Maybe if it records just the hard braking, as for the smith system, that's more or less skills I'd been using for years. Maybe I'm just used to where the last two companies didn't really depend on all the gizmos, but had a very low accident rate, i guess

I accept the fact that we are on camera when we leave our homes - Having a camera in my home is a big pill to swallow for a guy like me.

It seems that we have been a nation that enjoyed a measure of privacy, and respected the privacy of others. In the last 10 years we are tripping over ourselves to give up our privacy. We are now tweeting and facebooking about the food we are about to eat.
