We are going to start using the laptop for hubbys logs. Having very little space in the truck, I was wondering what printers you guys use and where do you mount them? What type of connectivity do you use. I've been looking at the compact printers, HP makes on, but honestly, I don't think that its worth the price that they are asking.

Thanks in advance for your input.

Bet your Hubby's cab is larger than mine (05 379 ext hood)
    I use a Cannon IP 90
    It's been very tough
You can find the ink things on the net for cheep
Keep a few extra as they are very small
For a mount I use a RAM I think Don at Dieselboss has them

I bought my printer off ebay. You'll probably be able to find a good one on there for a great price. I have a hp printer scanner copier fax and I only paid $59.00. You could maybe try to get a brand that you know a walmart or target would sell the ink so t will be to find ink. Also if you go to cosco or sams club they have ink in bulk.

I'm thinking that we might be able to mount it on top of the microwave. We ditched the toaster oven, since we didn't use it but once in about three months.

Yeah, hubbys cab is bigger than yours. LOL

Do you have to leave it hooked up, or can you just hook it up when the DOT wants the log books?

    I don't know
I still run a three ring binder so I don't do the e-log thing
I use mine to print permits and maps off streets and trips that I have put my routes in

Ive been running Drivers Daily Log for a couple of years now. You have to print out your log each day and sign it, and then keep 7 days available at all times. I am using a Canon IP1800, been working great so far.

I use a KODAK Printer, not sure of the model number, but it is the smallest printer/scanner/copier Kodak has.
Kodak price is about 30% HIGHER than the comparable HP printer, but INK Cartridge price is less than 1/2 than for the HP (or other brands).
Other brands build the "printer head" into the cartridge. Kodak does not, so you are paying for the INK and not the printer head.
I am much happier with he KODAK than I was with the HP.
I just find an open shelf area for the printer.

There is a Cannon battery operated printer real small but goes for 270.00 so I use a 50.00 Epson with cheap cartridges and a 50.00 usb cannon lide scanner. Hook the thing up when I need it. Work pretty good so far, I have a Volvo 780 an I took the cb out off the dashboard and put my laptop closed in there with a 7 inch remote screen for gps.

I use a Canon iP2600 ink jet, it's like $50 at best buy, works great on the truck. I just put a power strip on the inverter. I keep the printer, usb cable and power cord in the original box using the bottom foam for support. When I need to print I just pull out the printer, pug it in the power strip, and plug the USB to the laptop.

Two of my Customers (OTR Drivers) are using HP Officejet H470 printers. You can see them over at newegg. Ink will kill you in the long run. I would hunt a old small laser-jet b/w on e-bay like "Lexmark Optra-E" (ebay $25 toner for 2000+ pages, nice and cheap) Just make sure your windows has drivers for the printer,a good inverter, and a usb parallel cable. This model will work with ME,2000,XP,Vista,& Windows 7. The printer and cable ran me $20 on ebay. Good Luck:biggrin_255:
