Local high school band wants to pay me to drive their equipment to competitions. Do the HOS and logging requirements apply? I get the run around between GSP and GA DOT.

In what type of vehicle? How many miles? I believe if you are home every day and stay within (I think) 200 miles, then it falls under the local exemption and does not require logging. Otherwise, anything that pays money does require logging. I believe hos rules apply either way. Look up the local exemption and see what the stipulations are.

I wouldn't worry a bit. No one is going to mess with you. Trailer probably says school x high school band. As long as lights work they will just roll you across scales. Heck, just tuck in behind the yellow dog and don't stop. Play dumb if they ever do.

Rented tractor, privately owned trailers. Most are local, 1 or 2 are interstate.

If you are getting paid you have to log any hours you work.

Actually, no one needs to know that I get paid, it could just a easily be volunteer work. The issue I think will be running a 14 (or 16) hour clock. If I go on duty in a day cab to drive 4 hours, then wait for 9 at the show and have to drive 4 hours back type of thing.
