Been a very long time I don't post here. So, after 5 years doing OTR I decided to join a big carrier to do regional, I'm home on weekends and sometimes once during the week too.
OTR was fun and all seeing the country coast to coast but I was getting sick and tired of it. I ran i80 Nevada to PA and I-90 WA-OH a bizillion times (only the northern states).
At the beginning of the month all that changed. I joined JB Hunt for a regional job, would keep me away from the mountains and home more often. The job paid 95k doing hazmat loads out of Iowa to other midwest states mostly.
Well, 3 weeks in yet I haven't cracked $1400, I don't know what I'm doing wrong (95k equals almost 2k a week) today I got $1095 (that for hauling freaking hazmat!). I feel lied to and just p*ssed off frankly.
I only have 2 companies on my 5-year trucking record and now this bs one too.
I don't know what to do, very frustrated.
The reason why I did this change was mostly so I can be home more often to see my newborn child grow up, maybe I should just suck it up and stick to this crap company for a while, at least their benefits are decent.
The truck (international) I have is complete garbage, extreme rattling, billion sensors, driver facing camera, max 65 mph, slows to 59 on the slightest hill even if empty.
If you say I f'ed up... ur prob right.

They lied to you. Megas are known to do that. Why not go for a local job?

All you can do is try to make as much as possible. It’s rare that I see a local job that pays over $1400 per week. OTR either for that matter. A few dedicated runs available now, 50-60 cpm 2600-3300 miles per week. Like you I’m looking for something that just doesn’t seem to exist. All the ads are inflated at least 20%. Can’t be believed. Same ads all the time. I’m looking for 60 hrs 5 days local work, OT after 40. I can’t find it. Probably go back OTR myself for $1700 week, working 6 days. Till I can’t stand it any longer. Best to talk to other Company Drivers before hiring in anywhere. Even then you need to weed out the BS. Unfortunately the crappy pay you mention is about the same everywhere. Companies thrive on selling the lie. They don’t want Drivers like me that know all the tricks. Rather someone that doesn’t know better. I’m in the same boat as you right now. I believed the Owners BS. Turned down 3 other jobs. Time to move on. This job served its purpose at the time, past 8 mos. Might be good in the future after I retire. But right now, I need to make as much as possible for a few more years. I’m surprised at how little amount of money I’m able to live on working local. If done right local work can pay better than OTR. Local LTL is the prize. Get in while your young.

Well no, local is too much pressure to getting things done in a day, overworked, at least that's what I feel it is.

what annoys me most is they said you'd be doing the "average amount of work" for the 95k salary. I really asked about this.
Ive been running down the 14 clock most days doing a bunch of deliveries yet I'm not even close to making that.
even at 1200 id be at 62,000. this is just bs.

Most CDL holders don't make 90k. You need to look at what the average a trucker makes.....and it's a lot less than 95k. What you must understand is that if they advertise 95k, probably less than 3 percent of the whole fleet makes that, if at all. There isn't enough freight in the world for every driver to make that kind of money. Hazmat for dry van and reefer may pay a few cents per mile more or a few dollars per hour more, but it isn't about to make you rich. Having endorsements gives you more options but not always more money. You're not doing anything wrong besides working for a company that's too #### big lol

JB Hunt is NOTORIOUS for lying to drivers about what positions are available (along with the associated pay). They’ve been doing it for YEARS (well over a DECADE). And it’s been well documented here by previous drivers-including some of the mods!

Right now there just isn’t enough freight to go around (too many trucks in the market).
