Hello All,
I am currently considering truck driving as a career change. Unfortunately I recently received a DUI/DWI. (Yes it was a stupid mistake! No need to flame me for it.)
So, I received "Probation Before Judgement" with two years unsupervised pobation. After talking with the County Clerk and researching on the internet I was informed that this is not a conviction. Instead, I have to keep my nose clean for two years and then it will be wiped away (no, not off my record, just not a conviction/guilty sentence.)
Prior to this I have a clean record. I had never been arrested, neven been in trouble with the law, etc. I have a clean MVR prior to this and am told that this won't be on my MVR for the general viewing public (only police and such will have access to it). I have received no points on my license (but will if I get in trouble during probation).
I currently have no wife, children, pets, or house...in other words nothing to tie me down. I have no problem with being away for weeks to months at a time. I don't care what type of freight I could haul or to where. I am not concerned with having a great truck or even the greatest pay. (I understand that you have to put your time in.) I wouldn't even mind having to unload freight. (I currently work in a food distribution warehouse picking packages, loading/unloading trucks, and know how to operate various forklifts.)
So...my question is this: Is there even an honest chance at my driving a truck with this on my record or do I have to wait 5+ years?
I don't want to presently invest (money I don't really have) into a CDL and then find out that I can't get a job.
I'd greatly appreciate any and all replies. Thanks!

There are some company that don't want you to have any DUI ever

Having just got it you will have to wait at least a year after your probation. maybe at least 5+ years and like was said Ssome companies will never hire you. At this time I would look else wear for a job.

Those pretrial interventions are only good if your state allows for automatic expungement afterwards (which a lot do). Even that won't help you for the next couple years. But, when they were first invented they were pretty good for keeping your record clean, but as they became more commonplace and employers caught on, it's now treated exactly like a plea deal which in turn is treated exactly like a conviction. Even pending charges that haven't gone anywhere at all are treated as convictions for hiring purposes.
If they got you dead to rights, there's no reason not to take it, but don't fall for the stories or think it'll be fine. There's entire blogs and forums dedicated to "if i knew then what I know now" about PTI's and witheld adjudications.
They tell you when you complete the terms the charges are simply dropped. If that was the case they should put that as the status on your record when it's done. They don't, they put "adjudication witheld". This is the government's wink to employers. -
Hello,
Thank you all for the responses.
So pretty much, what you are all saying, is that I am SOL.
Does anyone know of any company that could hire me to drive? My record is really clean prior & after this event. -
Not any of the companies that are in the national spotlight or addressed on this site, not during this hiring environment anyway. You're going to have to make some phone calls and make some visits.
