Since I have been solo, I am having a problem being on time for the shipper and con. I am always running late. Weather, traffic, accidents, etc... I leave on time, and I only stop for fuel and restroom breaks. I don't eat sitting still till the end of my 11-14. Yet I keep running my 14 down and having time on my 11 left. This tells me I am taking to much time somewhere. Problem is being with Werner, I can't stop my clock. So if I am waiting to be loaded/unloaded, I gotta run my 14 hr clock down.

It also doesn't help that dispatch keeps my times tight. Once I am late for one run, it seems I am late for the next four. I run refer dedicated and a lot of our stuff is drop and hook. so I am usually from shp to con in 1 day or 1 and a half days tops.

The worst is when I get to a Wal-mart. Never drop and hook and No overnight parking! And when I drive all day and put it in the dock, 9 out of 10 times I run out of line 3 on the lot. I usually go ahead and chance it. I roll out and hope to find somewhere to park before the qualcom picks me up. Usually this puts me in a parking lot or dirt strip somewhere. It sucks. And dont even think about being late for a Walmart load. My lat one I rolled in one hour late, they said "we will get you done when we can" Which means I will be sitting all day. And sure enough, they called me unloaded with 15 mins on my clock. No time to get anywhere. I hit line 3 and rolled, needless to say I ended up 45 mins in violation just getting off the lot.

I need help. This is costing me $$$$ and time!!!

It depends on who you are driving for and if they allow split breaking, but if you are at a receiver and unhooked, log it on line 2 (sleeper). If you get close to 8 hours there before moving, it lengthens the 14 if you show 8 hours in the sleeper, according to the DOT and most people that matter, if your company won't allow it, they will show it as a violation when you turn in your logs. The 8 hour part of the split must be logged in the sleeper, and any deviation from that, like say, finding the restroom, should be actually 7 minutes or less. If anyone was watching you, it would be legal. I split break lots when I'm doing OTR, not so much for line haul, but do that too at times, I stay in the truck instead of wasting sleep time commuting home to be awakened by the sounds of town life, it is not good working nights and sleeping days in this business.

LogsRus has some presentations about split breaking.
