The treads on my trailers tires are starting to wear real thin and I'm looking at whether or not to recap them or just bite the bullet and get some new ones. I'm new to this and was wondering, if I recap what are common issues and problems I can expect? Would you guys advise it?

    Thanks,
    Matthew

For not a whole lot more you could put a set of Roadmasters or Yokohamas on there and feel a bit more at ease on those hot summer days. I know some guys have good luck with caps. Key obviously is to be on top of your tire pressure at all times. I was just never a fan myself.

For the price of cheaper new tires I buy new. With caps and with new but not as much. You need to keep your tire pressures up. If you don't the sidewall flexes too much and they blow. When it's hot out I don't run caps more than 60-65mph when it's hot speed builds heat heat make gators on the rd.

If they started as virgins then have someone like Goodyear cap them but only if you get your tires back. I understand that could be hard if you have just one set.

If you get random tires back then go with new virgin set and have your virgins capped for the next rotation. Only problem with caps if you know their history is rarely if you turn extremely tight, it can roll the cap off the casing.

If you run coast to coast just get new ones IMO.

I don't run recaps not on my truck or trailer or logbook. But if you do air pressure is everything. Also heard Michelin having a problems with theirs now. Good luck

Caps are not a problem IF they're made on good casings.
    Air pressure is the killer.
    Guys don't check it.

    That's what causes failures.
    Low pressure builds heat... KAPOW.

Then the cap gets the blame.
Even virgin tires will pop if you run them underinflated.
I get trailers all the time with tires at 60# of pressure of less.
Who knows how long the other idjits have been dragging it like that.

    It's not flat, right?

I never ever buy recaps, I have had too many cars fixed because of them.

Caps are too expensive to run if you’re paying attention and tracking fuel costs virgin tires are practically free compared to caps just on fuel savings alone
