I guess I am VERY lucky, the local shop I have been using usually charges actual time. Very nice people and very good to there customers. I would probably never use a big shop unless it was an dire situation.

Some thing is definitely amiss with the company when there are this many reported problems from various stores around the country. I wouldn't do bidness with them at their Greeley CO location. ONCE I stopped to buy a part from them. They were so rude I vowed to never go back and haven't. The owner of the company I'm leased to and his son both bought trucks last yr from them. Lots and lots of lying and problems out of them.

That's a bad deal man....I do a lot of trading around and try to be VERY honest in my deals.A good stomping in the parking lot would heal a lot of that lying up,but in todays over regulated ,PC world a guy would end up in jail and the scumbag liar would walk.

We had one of those shops here for a long time, but it's shut down now and all we are left with is a big shop in town and the owner is just a semi legal thief.

I know people that have had big problems with Rush Equipment when they were up here in Grand Rapids selling John Deere Construction Equipment. Owned by the same group...

Hang in there, last week my driver said there was a whining noise coming from the front of the engine, once he delivered his load in San Antoine i sent him to a center that specializes in cat engines. They determined the noise was behind the front cover, once off they found nothing.(18hrs. to r&r) The problem was the fan hub bearing. I'm not saying they're crooks, they just misdiagnosed the problem and it cost me 3120.00 to fix the fan. The cost of getting these trucks fixed is expensive and down time is costly as well. It's hard not to take it personal, but it's the nature of these beasts to fail occasionally. I hope they get it fixed it right and get it on the road soon for ya. Good luck.

    Muleskinner Thanks this.

I'm kinda bummed to hear about Rush. We bought our first Pete from Rusty himself when he was still a salesman at Dallas PB. I guess it's possible to ourgrow your britches after all.

Well, Folks...ya live and ya learn. I see why Rush was hesitant to give us the bill over the phone, lest we show up with a posse to take prisoners. The bill went from $4500 to $8,000!!!!!

Pissed is an understatement, especially since we didn't authorize the work passed the 4500. Anyhoo....Don't know exactly what made them finally realize the injustice, perhaps it was the visibly angry Trucker outside chain-smoking and staring into the window of the supervisor's office all while I attempted to go over the invoice with them inside!? When it was all said and done they cut invoice down to $6700. Still not great...but ya live and ya learn. Some lights inside the cab aren't working, but alot of things are. They also literally cut some lights off the outside because they were a "fire hazard". We weren't notified of this....so you can imagine the angry truck driver's response. It wasn't G-rated. But, Rush fixed more stuff we pointed out on the spot. Work is warrantied 1 year. Overall, like y'all said, it was a complicated job. The previous owner really butchered the wiring. What we wanted was a truck with a strong engine and that's what we got.

Again, thank all of you for your support...your advice was very helpful. Now, back to work.... we got loads to haul and $6700 to pay off!

WOW!...........I don't think i could have stood outside that supervisors office. The least they could've done was a phone call to let you know the bill is going past the authorized amount. That warranty isn't much good unless you can get it back to their shop. I had a repair done once, the truck broke down a thousand miles away, had the same thing fixed again and took the bill and the part back to the shop they wouldn't pay it. This is one of the low points of owning your own truck and being at the mercy of a repair shop is not a good feeling. Good luck with the truck and i hope you can find a shop close by that you can trust.

After being on the other side of this "flat rate" problem. That is NOT how flat rate is done. To figure flat rate for a job they take the job to be done for example: R&R trans, Ok first thing is to set up the mechanic and time how long it takes from start to finish. And they do this 3 complete times. After which they divide the total time by 3 to get an average time, and that is your flat rate number. Yes sometimes it is in favor of the mechanic IF he has done this job a few times before. BUT it does not take into consideration all of the extra JUNK the owner has added on that must be removed to get into the job and then put back on. It also doesn't add in for the dirt and grease that is all over you when working on something that should have had a good pressure washing 6 months ago. And it sure as hell doesn't account for the dirty #$^^% bolt that broke off and now takes 2 extra hours to drill out and re-tap. So to sum it all up....IF everything goes well and IF nothing breaks. Yes the Tech doing the job can get paid more than time involved. But lets face it how many times does it go well? If you feel your getting shafted make them give you the break down of time INCLUDING job codes. Now I'm not saying some shops don't lie. But that doesn't mean a high bill is sticking it to the owner either. I myself have had many jobs that have paid me WAY less than the actual time involved. And ANY time you mess with electrical be ready for a LARGE bill. Lets face it electrical is sometimes very hard to trace. Also when it comes to an estimate????? Look up the word estimate in the dictionary and see if it isn't just a guess???? GET IT IN WRITING BEFORE ANY WORK IS DONE... Also if you don't sign a repair order then you didn't authorize the repair and you can just say "I didn't tell you to do that put it back the way it was!" All they can charge you for then is an estimate fee.

Bottom line is this is just like getting surgery, Make sure you do your research on the company and the repair that needs done. If you have an idea about what your talking about it will be hard for them to bluff you. If you don't then take someone with you who does. It will definitely be cheaper to pay an independent tech to go with you then a high bill.

Also I'm not saying this company is any good. I know nothing about them. Just defending the honest shops and mechanics out there.
