I am assuming it is something that has to be negotiated before the rate con, but what should happen after a new rate is agreed to?

Does the broker have to put it on the rate con or do I have to send an addendum to the rate con?

Get everything in writing, and good luck getting paid.

I don't typically discuss tonu before hand. Then again I don't do new customers anymore either. When I did it was always after the fact and we would agree on a price and a revised rate con is sent. Always been paid for tonu. Often abandon working with the broker. If their customer sucks I don't want to waste my time screwing around.
Detention: I know where I'm delivering and the average time to load and unload. So I do all in rate. Keeps customer happy by not complicating the situation with a lot of "if". It would be the same as a customer offering a higher rate then asking if they get a discount if they load or unload it very quickly. Why would a carrier offer a lower rate then ask for some detention? Learn the average and set a steady rate. Both sides happy. Or customer can live and die on spot market with a new truck for every load. With unproven service. It's all good.

I work with the same customers all the time, to hell with that running wild nonsense. So my opinions may be a bit biased.
