Thank you for your replies .Yes ,i'm struggling because the rate is low as the carrier get loads from brokers and cuts a little bit and passes it on to me, on top of that they take their commission .I do not get to see the paperwork and a lot of times i had to come back empty .

I did incorperated my own company , so back to the question how can i get my own authority without proof of insurance , and i cannot buy insurance without authority .(in Canada anyway) .

I cant afford paid service hence i'm in this forum seeking help .

    Any taker ?

If you run in the U.S. you will need US authority along with Canadian authority. You may check with OOIDA. They are based in the U.S., but have an office in Canada. They should be able to answer your questions. I don't recall how things work in Canada, but you must have active insurance in the U.S. in order for your authority to be active. Back when I first got my authority, I believe that we receive our authority, but had to get insurance within a certain time period or the authority would be revoked. OOIDA is a very good resource. They will offer advice and can assist you in getting your authority for a fee. Getting your authority is not difficult. You just fill in the blanks. It is much easier today than when I first got my authority. There are a number of services around that will do the paperwork for you for a fee. I can't see paying someone to do something that you can do for yourself.

Sorry to say that, but if you can not afford a $1500 service, you should stop think to become an O/O.

Nad I went through this last year getting my Ontario authority. I used a service to save time and headaches. I had met my future insurance broker and told her I needed a policy # to get my authority application going. She phoned the service and gave them my future policy# and I had my authority in 10 days with no issues.

I don't get what he means authority, insurance, round about....like you said register company, get NSC, then IFTA, cargo insurance & Prorate. But, what is the MC# ? I am in BC with NSC# and getting rest....Canada only of course with this...

If you haul freight in the U.S., you need to have motor carrier authority (MC #). You also need a DOT number which is usually now applied for at the time you apply for authority. In order to have motor carrier authority you need to have minimum amounts of liability insurance. You must maintain the minimum amount of coverage to be granted and maintain U.S. motor carrier authority. If you only run Canada, then you don't need to worry about it.

good, tx....btw, I have heard references to 'docket #' ...any ideas what that is?

...also, any way to permit into border states without MC or US dot #, which would involve the complete authority process?

Got part of it, Docket # is the MC#...reviewing some US DOT motor carrier details online....
