They stripped it and redecked it- I can’t recall if it was $300 all in or $300 strip and $300 deck- man it was worth it!

If you have a steel trailer with tubing crossmembers, you best go ahead and sell it before it rust out, I’ve done been through that nightmare.
You know those self tapping screw holes you mentioned, what they do is provide a place for water to get in, with no way for it to get out. The trailer rust from the inside out, and you don’t know it until it’s too late.
I have a Trail King sliding axle that had tubing crossmembers. Ended up having to replace all the crossmembers and most of the side rail. New crossmembers were I-beam. It really wasn’t worth it, but the trailer was scrap otherwise. I’ll never again own a trailer with tubing crossmembers. -
I didn't say anywhere in my post that I had a steel trailer, aluminum tubular crossmembers hold up fine. That's what I was referring too. An EAST.
Also, I've seen plenty of steel lowboys and steps that have I-beam cross members that rotted out just as bad. The climate where the trailer runs has a large part of it.Humblepie Thanks this. -
Most trailer decks that I have messed with are not your standard, 1 1/2 inch thick lumber either. Iirc hardwood tongue and groove decking is 1 5/16 thick or real close.
