Be glad when everyone learns it's a 9 speed not an 8. It just has 8 numbers on the shifter. But low counts. If you not sure look on the dash or close to it, there should be sticker with a shift pattern

147138963063223961812.jpg Depends. The main point I was making I'd there should be a information sticker for the transmission, if it hasn't been removed. As you can see this one doesn't have deep reduction. By adding.a splitter box it would be a 13. Only in special cases (8ll for ex) low can be split.

I ride a 15 speed giant mountain bike on the weekends.
Just put a milk crate on the rear to carry lunch for those long rides.

Don't think about road speed. Go up and down the gears one at a time and you'll do fine. If you really want to worry about road speed, then all you'll need is the tire size, final drive ratio, differential ratio and the gear ratios of the transmission to calculate just what speed you need to be going to select the next gear.

You are overthinking it. It shouldn't be that complicated.

If you really want to be picky so we count reverse as well, or are you limiting it to forward gears?
