me and a buddy was having a discussion what’s the pros and cons for spread axles on a 40 ft end dump vs tandem ?? If you can only haul 80k why is a spread axle needed ? Please elaborate thanks !!
Well, the spread gives you 40,000 lbs on the rear of the trailer. Depending on the product, you have more flexibility to pile it up back there I guess. Also, the front axle will pull some weight off the drives, so if it's a heavy tractor, that would be a small plus.
What Zeviander said, also if you put an air lift on each axle, you can save wear on tires by running on a single axle when empty and shortening your turning radius(just watch the swing), it also gives you more stability when dumping(unless it's a frameless).
